April’s Post

Morning with the Pandas

We joined the online call ‘An Adventure with Pandas’. It was so fun we got to answer questions in Mandarin, see videos of Panda and learn more about the giant pandas, Yang Guang and Tian Tian, who were returning back to China.

Music

Mrs Carey came to visit us and we got to work in a groups to compose a four beat rhythm pattern, using the beats ta, tete, tiri tiri / tiri te / te tiri.

Talent Show

We won 10 stars in the Jar by working as a team and working hard in class! We then got to vote what we wanted our class reward to be! We voted for a class talent show! We got time to present our talents and celebrate each others amazing confidence! Well done to everyone!!

Talking and Listening

For talking and listening we worked in groups to create a voice over for a movie trailer. We watched the trailer without any music and had to think about the plot, characters and setting. We created scripts that told a story and encourage people to watch the movie, it was tricky to make sure what we said matched with what was on the screen! We got really creative and some of us used our instruments to add tension! We had great fun doing this and we loved listening to our peers ideas.

Our Class Trip to the Co-Op

Today my class visited the CO-OP for Fairtrade information since we have been learning about it. We walked out of school then crossed the street to get there. When we got there a man called Lee told us about Fairtrade products and how they were the first to make Fairtrade products and how every purchase helps people using Fairtrade. He set us a task to search for four different Fairtrade products and one had to be non drinkable and non edible. After that he told us CO-OP premium gives Fairtrade 2P of every pound we spend at the CO-OP . Finally we lined up to either get an apple, banana or a tangerine and took a picture with a BIG Fairtrade banana! Then we walked back to school while eating our juicy, squishy and Fairtrade piece of fruit. We really enjoyed being at the CO-OP and we want to have another trip there.

World Book Day

During world book day this year we took part in a scavenger hunt where we had to answer questions about different books then find the answers. There were lots of questions around the hall. We also got to read a book that we brought from home or one of our favourites from the library  in darkness using torches to read.  This was super cosy and we found that the darkest place was under the table!

Planters

This month we visited primary 2.1, we planted bulbs in pots so we can plant next term when it is a bit warmer. We are sharing our planter with primary 2 and thought we could help them when with planting. Primary 2 were amazing they knew exactly how to plant the bulbs and they even showed us around their  classroom. We have been taking care of these in class and a couple of our bulbs have sprouted.

Bike Ability Practice

The Primary 7’s helped us play games using our bikes and scooters! Look at us go!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory🍫

Our topic this term has been Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We read about the five golden ticket winners and then created character wheels about them. We also acted like the winning and we got interviewed by the rest of the class. We create a new idea for a Wonka sweet and heard from Mr Willy Wonka himself encouraging us to make a unique invention. Once we came up with our idea we brought them to life through our writing creating the sweet itself and the invention room. Finally designed our door leading to our room. We also turned our classroom door into a Wonka bar! We finished our topic by watching a bit of the 1971 and 2005 movie, we reviewed the difference between the book and movies. ⭐️

We all have had so much fun during this topic❤️

Silhouettes🖥

In ICT we made our silhouettes on the computer.    It was hard but it was worth it in end because they look amazing! We had to  take a picture of each others side profiles, then we had to make sure we were stood in front of a white background. We uploaded the pictures from the iPads onto a compute and copied them onto a PowerPoint. After that we changed the format and removed background and then changed the brightness. We were then left with wonderful silhouettes. Can  you guess who is who❓

Mandarin 🇨🇳

In mandarin we have been learning numbers to 🔟 and we are all getting very good at them. We have been practising saying them out loud and we got a chance to write them✍️ . We have been learning about the spring festival and all the wonderful traditions that take place during this time. Finally we learnt how to say different colours. This is our last week of Mandarin but we will continue to practice what we know in class.

P.E🤸‍♀️

In PE we were doing gymnastics. We learned how to do different rolls, handstands and cart wheels. We made sure we were using the equipment safely. We also learned to play Jedi dodgeball.  We have to use tactics, strategies and lots of team work in this game, we are getting better at it. P.E has been so fun 🎾. I (Evie) have been in charge of taking photos during PE and I have captured some great ones, check them out!

Outdoor Learning🌲

We went outdoors and wrote a poem about all the things we saw, we had to use a number – verb -alliteration and noun format every line. We typed this up and saved it on our google classrooms. If you want I’m sure your child would be happy to show you what they came up with.💻 We also created our own maths games outside and had a chance to teach other groups what we came up with.

Class News 🧾

This month we have had lots of presentations and show and tells. We have loved learning more about our class mates and proud of the confidence they have shown. 😊

Signing out Evie and Lucy!!

Technologies – Coding

We have ben learning how to code using different software. We then transferred our code onto a piece of hardware called a microbit which has LEDs to show the code.

First we started with a flashing heart, then our names and now more challenging code like a dice and the rock, paper, scissors game.

We know how important coding is for things in our everyday life and maybe some of us will need to use it in our jobs in the future.

Music

We have been learning about rhythm and pitch during our music lessons with Mrs Carey. We were tapping out rhythms using the drumsticks and showed excellent teamwork to keep in time with others.

Decembers Post

Hi Parents we have lots to update you on!

Castle and Bridges

Our Topic is Castles and Bridges and we have been learning and share our knowledge about them .  We were in a group of 5 and we all made some castles. We have all worked so hard with making the castles and we put so much hard effort into them. We  created them by learning about attachment techniques, these techniques helped us build strong castles., our challenge was to use at least two of the 4 we had learnt about. Everyone did a great job of building and worked well in their teams.

Salt Dough

We all made a Christmas craft using salt dough. The materials we used were, stencils, food colouring, flour, water and salt. Before they dried we put 3 thumb prints then we let them dry. When they dried we painted the thumb prints like baubles on a tree. We hope you liked them and hope some of you have them hanging on your tree!

Maths

We have been working hard during maths and completing lots of problems solving tasks. We have had different challenged that we we work on then when we are done we complete our targets, these help us practice the learning that we have already focused on.

Class Prize

Everyone had been really good at getting tidied up quickly and we managed to get 10 stars in the jar! We had a class prize and everyone could bring in any teddy of their choice but not too big. We had so much fun showing each other what we had brought in, everyone was smiling and laughing we all had an amazing time!

Party

On Tuesday we had our party in the afternoon we played  lots of  games like pin the carrot on the snowman, musical statues and corners.

Writing and Art

During art we all got a chance to paint a wonderful snowing setting, this helped us a lot with our writing as it helped us imagine what our setting would look like. We had to use our imagination to describe what we saw, heard and felt. We even came up with some similes and alliteration to use in our writing.

We want to wish you a happy holidays and hope it is filled with lots of fun and happiness!

Digital Literacy Week!

Today, as part of Digital Literacy Week, Primary 5 have been developing their coding skills. First, the children explored the role of coding through role play by creating a list of instructions or a code for each other in order to navigate an obstacle course. The pupils then used Chromebooks and the computers in the ICT suite to practise making codes to complete a Minecraft game. Mastering this involves precision as well as a lot of problem solving and all of the pupils tried very hard, well done Primary 5!  (ARTICLE 17 and 28)

Welcome to 5.2

Welcome to Primary 5.2

As you will know Primary 5 have moved upstairs to our new classroom and are already having lots of fun while revising areas of the curriculum from last year.

Literacy

We were writing a letter to our Primary 4 teacher Miss Aslam telling her all about her summer and sharing a few things we did. We took part in book tasting, exploring different types of book and discussing our favourites and added some descriptions and reviews to our library books.

In ICT we took a vote on which book we wanted our class novel to be and the winner was… ‘The Unexpected tale of Bastien Bonlivre’.

Art

We have been learning about different art techniques, one of our activities was paper marbling called Japanese Suminagashi. We mixed a range of inks with water to create our own marbling designs. We then used this to write our names with a cool background.

Health and Wellbeing

In health and wellbeing we have been discussing our expectations within our class, we have explored the rights that each child has and chosen the most important 6 to displaying them on our class charter. Finally we have been make steps to  make our class and school  more compassionate and connected.

Finally I look forward to seeing some of Primary 5/2 at the Basketball club which starts Monday the 5th for 4 weeks. As there was a big interest in this club I hope to run another session to insure the majority of pupils who were interested gets a chance to attend.

There will be photos added to the blog as soon as all consent forms for pictures are back. Hope you are all well.
