University of Aberdeen – Summer School for Access 2016

This exciting course provides a route into higher education for those whose current, or predicted, qualifications do not reflect their true potential for degree level study. It is aimed at school leavers, young adults and mature students who may have experienced setbacks in their previous education, as well as those wishing to change direction within their careers or subject area.

Participants take part in a 6 week full time programme from mid-June to the end of July. The Summer School provides an opportunity to sample new subjects, experience university life, and gain self-confidence, equipping students with the skills they need to progress onto successful degree study. (Please note: The Summer School no longer delivers English and Maths courses for entry to teacher training.)

Application process: For most applicants and schools there is no separate application process for entry onto the Summer School.  If your pupils are only applying to the University of Aberdeen then we would ask that they apply for a place via their UCAS application personal statement. They will need to mention their reasons for applying in the statement.

If your pupils wish to apply to more than one University OR they do not want to mention their reasons for applying to the Summer School in their personal statement then there is an alternative. They can email Chris Sojka directly to apply for a place. They would need to include their reasons for applying within the email. This information will then be passed onto the Admissions Selector for consideration at the appropriate stage.

The Admissions Selector may then, if they deem it appropriate, make your pupils an offer of admissions based (either fully or in part) on successful completion of the Summer School course.
