Expanded Glasgow Guarantee event to take place in City Chambers

The expansion of the £50 million Glasgow Guarantee scheme, which is being championed by the Leader of the Council Gordon Matheson, will be launched to partner organisations at an event on 2 September in the City Chambers.

The expanded Glasgow Guarantee will support 1000 Glasgow residents every year into employment supporting the Living Wage Rate including:

  • those aged under 20, providing opportunities for employment and related training; and
  • those aged 20 and over, providing employment opportunities paying the Glasgow Living Wage.

New measures

  • The eligibility for apprenticeship places will be extended from one to two years from the date of leaving school.
  • The graduate element will be widened to offer funding of employment support to college students with qualifications in certain sectors, including engineering and digital and information technology.
  • Support has been extended for the first time to those aged 24 to 29 and will continue to support veterans and those aged over 50.
  • The under the age of 20 offer has been expanded to include all workless young people who are not in full time education, training or employment including school leavers or those thinking of leaving school.

Graduates will continue to be supported in the aged 20 and over category. All groups will be eligible for assistance from the first day of unemployment.
