We are looking to recruit 10 apprentice Community Dental Health Support workers on a two year apprenticeship programme within our Oral Health Directorate.
The Oral Health Directorate (OHD) is hosted within the East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). The OHD supports health improvement programmes of care throughout all HSCPs area of NHSGGC. These posts are based in various locations throughout NHSGGC including:
- Glasgow City
- East Renfrewshire
- East Dunbartonshire
- Inverclyde
- West Dunbartonshire
- Renfrewshire
These posts are part of multi-disciplinary teams which provide support to care staff, individuals and families, to improve their nutrition and oral health.
The post holder will work across a range of placement settings including family homes, nursing homes, prisons, community and primary care dental service settings and will facilitate access to oral health promotion, dental preventive and treatment services through all Dental Public Health Programmes.
During the apprenticeship period you will be trained, developed and supported to carry out the duties including:
- Contact with parents and carers of all new births, as allocated by the caseload within the Child and Family Health Teams, to discuss oral health and determine their needs.
- To Provide oral health and infant nutrition advice in the family home and through community activities, for example, weaning fairs, Signposting parents to groups e.g. Breastfeeding, Demonstrating toothbrushing techniques to parent/ carers,
- To record and maintain client information utilising appropriate systems and documentation as employed by Child and Family Health Teams/Health Improvement and the Childsmile/Priority Group programmes. This includes handling of sensitive information relating to family circumstances.
- To promote Childsmile and oral health to a range of health, community and family groups including care staff, older people, prisoners, and homeless.
The starting salary for these apprenticeships will be £13,487.
Minimum entry requirements for the posts: National 5 English at Grades A-C (or equivalent) and two other National 4 (or equivalent) qualifications
