Propeller boats

This morning we were using all of our skills within the STEM subjects to build our elastic band boats ready to set sail on Monday.

We worked collaboratively with a partner measure, cut, design, approximate and build these boats with propellers.

We demonstrated problem solving skills to make the glue dry faster but trying to dry it in front of a heater, however, we quickly realised that that had the opposite effect…made the glue stay wet!!! So we quickly changed strategy and held them over the window where the air was cold instead!

Here are some pictures of our finished boats!

Amazing Expressive Arts Homework

The pupils showed off their fantastic family homework creations this morning.  The standard of work was outstanding.  The pupils had been inspired by a diverse range of artists, including Bobby McNamara, Vincent Van Gogh, Charles Rennie Macintosh and Jackson Pollock.

Questioning

We have been learning about questioning and today we were using questioning techniques to create our own questions on an extract from the book “Moonfleet”. We used Blooms Taxonomy Question Mats to help us write our questions. These questions helped us to deepen our understanding of the text.

Virgin Money Make £5 Grow

We are participating in the Virgin Money “Make £5 Grow” campaign. The first thing we did was to choose who would want to work with to start a business and then we had to come up with a business product. We would only get £5 each to spend so we had to think about making things that didn’t cost a lot of money to make! We are going to be selling our products in December so many of us thought of winter related ideas.

On Friday we pitched our business idea to two “dragons” from Virgin Money to see if they would invest and give us the £5. They were very impressed with all the pitches and thankfully they invested in everyone’s groups!

We are very excited to make and sell our products in December!

Maths Week

Last week was National Maths week. The aim is for everyone to experience the benefits, joy and beauty of maths in exciting new ways and Primary 7  had a fun filled week of maths.

We started off the week creating challenging math problem solving questions for the P7s at Netherlee Primary School. We worked in small groups and each group created 3 questions. Here is an example of some of our questions that we sent…

  • There are 12 people on the bus, 2 people then left the bus and 7 got on. At the next stop, 5 people then left the bus and 8 more got on. How many passengers are left on the bus?
  • There were 15 trees in the park, 5 people were sitting underneath the first one, 2 underneath the second one, 4 each sitting underneath the rest of the trees and there were 7 other people in the park. How many people are there altogether in the park?

Next we took part in a Maths Murder Mystery. Mr Maxwell had been “murdered” and we had to use our problem solving, team work and math skills to find the culprit! We had a great time solving all the questions and we found the culprit to be Miss Stevenson!

On Thursday we received the math questions which Netherlee had created for us. We worked together to solve the questions, (some were very tricky!!) and we correctly answered them all in half an hour! Great team work P7!

We finished off Maths week by taking part in a maths relay which all the p7s from both classes took part in. We worked in groups of 3 and we had 15 minutes to answer as many questions as possible but we couldn’t move onto the next question until we had found the correct answer to the previous one. Well done to the following teams who finished in the top 3:

1st – Gordon, Aaron and Leo

2nd – Max, Campbell and Ciaran

3rd – Tess, Ben and Serene
