Den Building in the Secret Garden

We had fun building dens in the Secret Garden! First we had to think about working as a team. We learned that there is no I in team! We had to make a den that was more than 1 metre in length                  , with space for a window and a door. Finally we had to fit our whole team inside! We found this quite tricky. Some of our dens collapsed because they were not strong enough. We will have to think about that next time!

Have a look at our photos                                     .

Outdoor Learning

We spent all day on Wednesday outdoors and had great fun.

We  investigated pattern and shape in the environment, played team building games, did bark rubbings, measured the length of the playground and width of tree trunks (and lots of other things!)

In the afternoon we tried to build a nest and found that it was NOT easy.

Can’t wait to go out again and see what we can discover.

Term 3 Catch Up

We can’t believe that it’s time for the holidays.  We have had a very busy term.  Here’s a quick catch up.

Our topic this term was Katie Morag.

Katie Morag lives on the Isle of Struay.  We enjoyed learning early mapping skills and even designed our own island maps.  We then had fun programming bee bots to direct them to go left, right, forwards and backwards around our map.

Grannie Island drove a tractor on the Isle of Struay. We all took part in the our very own Tractor Challenge.  Primary 6 came to help us design and make tractors using recycled materials.  It was great fun!

We enjoyed red nose day and designed our own red noses for a competition.

We have been looking for signs of Spring as part of our Science topic – Living and Non-Living things.  We found lots of new signs of life and Nathan even spotted a ladybird in the classroom which was really exciting.

We enjoy consolidating our learning through play.

For World Book Day we brought in some props for our favourite books.

Looking forward to our holidays. Hope everyone has a relaxing and happy time.

See you next term.

Pancake Day

We had fun on Shrove Tuesday.  We had to choose our own toppings to make our tasty treats.  Our waiters and waitresses did a great job of passing napkins and cutlery round the class and serving us fruit.

We managed to make a lot of mess but thanks to Cara and Emma for helping to clear up!!!

We topped them off with cream and sprinkles. Mmmmmm………….

Some of the things we have learned and enjoyed this week……

Some of us used alphabet stampers to print words.

036

039

We tried to spot and write down all the words we know from our library books.

037

We had to put our thinking hats on to design and plan our own learning environment.

001

We were set a challenge. Wrap up a parcel for the post office only using three bits of sticky tape. Please ask us if you would like a present wrapped at home. We were brilliant at this!!

Another busy week

We can’t believe that it is Friday already.  We have had such a busy week.

We have started our new topics this week.

In Social Studies we are reading the Katie Morag books and finding out the differences between life on an island and life in Glasgow. We found out that The Isle of Struay is really the Island of Coll.  We took a virtual tour around the island and saw some of the buildings that are on it. It is soooo different from where we live.  Some of us decided we would like to go there on holiday.

We are looking forward to doing some map work and then finding out about the transport used on an island compared to the transport in Glasgow. We will also be looking at different maps and even drawing our own.

In Science we are learning about Living and Non-living things.  We are looking forward to finding out more about this.

Our  P.E. days are now Tuesday (as usual) but also Wednesday instead of Friday.  We have been enjoying learning new skills in Gymnastics and also participating in some relaxing yoga.

Finally – we had to put on our thinking hats as we were asked to design different working areas in our classroom.  We set to work with a partner and clipboard to draw our designs. We drew a map of the classroom and wrote a list of things we would like to have in class to help our learning.  We are going to update our reading and writing corner and create a new maths area. We also said we would like a junk modelling corner too.

Watch this space – we will post some pictures when these areas are all ready.

Winter has arrived!

We were all so excited when we looked out the window this week and saw snow falling.  We couldn’t wait to go home so that we could make snowmen and have fun in the snow.

In class we talked about line drawing in Art and used our skills to design some lovely winter hats.

We also made some snowy pictures only using paper.  We learned that this is called collage.

Have a look……………
