At different points in the week we have the chance to talk about our interests, experiences and favourite things with show and tell. Others get to ask a question or make a comment as part of the audience. We like finding out about each other.
Chocolate, chocolate! π«
Some of us have been finding out more about delicious chocolate through our reading book. We have made flow charts to show the journey of a cocoa bean and designed our own chocolate creation.
We did a chocolate tasting activity where we used talking and listening and note making skills as we described the feel, smell and taste using as many adjectives as possible.
Reading for pleasure ππ
Thank you to the parents who supported us on our recent visit to the library. Chris showed us where to find fiction and non-fiction books and Miss Paterson gave us some tips on how to choose a book at the right level.
We enjoyed borrowing books and having the chance to read them in class and at home. We are looking forward to visiting the library again.
Solving problems together
We have been focusing on the strategy of ‘Act it out’ recently, using ourselves as the main resource!
In Technologies we were challenged to work in a team to build a bridge that could hold a toy car and then a heavy weight. We made good use of group discussion skills during the task and at the end when we shared feedback and advice.
Maths Week Scotland ββββοΈπ±πΈπ²π»ππ1οΈβ£9οΈβ£π’πππ‘π»
Last week was the inaugural event and we enjoyed taking part by discussing the importance of maths in everyday life.
We discussed the many ways adults in our school need to use maths to do their jobs well. We also considered maths and sport, art and cooking. Thank you to Karen who came from the kitchen to share her daily use of maths skills.
Thanks also to Miss Innes and P6B for leading a challenging mental maths treasure hunt. It was fun!
Sciences – Magnetism βοΈβππ
Miss Paterson found out that we already had quite a lot of ideas about magnets and that we knew good sciencey words too. She set us a challenge to find out more about the properties of magnets so we investigated whether or not they were attracted to different objects around us. From what we found we decided that magnets are attracted to metal. We are going to explore this further next time.
