Technology across the curriculum

We recently enjoyed an introductory session where we got use our new virtual reality kits. We were able to travel back in time and see ancient Egyptian artefacts and the Pyramids!

Many of us have been extending our information handling skills in numeracy and maths. After creating and undertaking our own interesting surveys we used newly learned technology skills to make charts and graphs with Excel.

Perfect pancakes! 🥣🥞🥚🍌

We used reading, measuring, teamwork and food preparation skills to make three different types of pancake 🥞.

WE MADE SURE THE SCALES STARTED AT ZERO.

I GOT TO MASH AND MIX.

WE GOT ALL THE INGREDIENTS AND EQUIPMENT READY FIRST.

OUR BATTER WAS THICKER THAN THEIRS AND MADE THICKER PANCAKES.

ADDING THE BAKING SODA MADE IT FLUFF UP AND GROW.

THESE ONES WERE DELICIOUS BUT IM NOT SO KEEN ON THE BANANA ONES.

Thank you to all of the adults who came in to give advice and support us with the cooking part.

  • WORLD BOOK DAY – Donate a book on Thursday for our book swap and get another in return on Friday. Also bring in a prop from a favourite book on Friday e.g. a wand for Harry Potter or tin of spaghetti for The Twits and we will try to guess what it is.
  • Some entrepreneurial P3s have been selling homemade slime for cash. I encourage sharing of toys but please discourage your child from conducting financial transactions in school!

 

World Book Day 2018

From the Library Committee…

With World Book Day fast approaching, we wanted to let you know about how we plan to celebrate it this year!

Amongst the whole school activities that we will be doing on Friday 2nd March, the Parent Council have also organised a very exciting event…

Braidbar Parent Council are planning a Book Swap to celebrate World Book Day.  We ask that on Thursday 1st March pupils bring in a book they are happy to swap.  On Friday 2nd March they will have an opportunity to choose a new book to take home. 

Please note that children may donate more than one book but each pupil will only be allowed to take one book home.  Left over books will be offered to the school for the library or classrooms (any extra will be donated to local charity shops).

We look forward to celebrating books and reading with you!

 

In P3 we will be undertaking different activities to build on the First Minister’s Reading Challenge and to celebrate books and reading. More information to follow in next week’s homework!

Lots of learning…

On Robert Burns day we used collage to make haggis, neeps and tatties. We also designed our own tartan and enjoyed drama in Scots with Sarah. When we did the Gruffalo we saw a tod (fox), a hoolet (owl) and a moose (mouse).

     

In Social Studies we’ve been learning about ancient Egyptian homes. We used what we know to make our own books about ancient Egyptian homes. We put in facts, subheadings, titles, bullet points and pictures. We also did paintings of ancient Egypt where we had to think about the climate as well as the buildings.

We’ve read lots of books in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge. We all have our own reading passport and bookmark and most of us have at least one or two stickers. Even if we don’t have lots of stickers it has still got us into reading.

 

We enjoyed writing about our own heroes and villains. We wrote about their powers and their enemies. We used lots of amazing adjectives like ugly, friendly, selfish, mean, and strong. This writing was also a chance to use paragraphs which is something new for us.

Read, Write, Count feedback
