In French we have really impressed Miss Paterson with our pronunciation and memory for new vocabulary. After playing games and doing other activities we now have a big bank of animal words. We recently put them together with number words we already knew to make simple sentences.

โ€Jโ€™ai deux lapins.

Jโ€™ai quatre tortues.

Jโ€™ai huit vaches.โ€

RME – Term 1 ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ•‰

We learned about a story from Hinduism and some beliefs Hindus have that are linked to the storyโ€™s main character – Ganesh or Ganesha.

You can watch a version of the story here to find out more and ask us about it.

Since Parvati made Ganesh from clay we also made our own models of him.

More magnetism

We have enjoyed further exploring the properties of magnets and are about to round off our learning in this area by making the games we designed and sharing them with P1.

We know that opposite poles ATTRACT and similar poles REPEL.

How to build a house for a… ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿš๐Ÿก

…gruffalo!

We all joined in to tell the story of the Gruffalo and quickly realised that the other animals’ homes were described but not his! In pairs we planned then built gruffalo homes. We got to visit and give feedback to our friends.

The next day we used the notes we had made to refresh our memories on the materials we had used and what we had done. We turned these into a set of instructions during our writing lesson.

I LIKED WORKING WITH A FRIEND

IT WAS HARD TO FIND THE RIGHT PLACE FOR A HOME

WE TRIED TO USE LOTS OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS

OUR HOME IS WATERPROOF

THE DOING WORDS ARE THE VERBS

THE MATERIALS GO UNDER THE OTHER HEADING

IT WAS FUN

WE COULD SHARE OUR INSTRUCTIONS WITH YOUNGER CHILDREN

Autumnal art

We created observational drawings of recently harvested vegetables. We had to think about shape and colour and were only to draw what we could actually see!

We also took inspiration from fallen leaves to paint our own imagined tree scenes.

Showing racism the red card

Led by the Community Committee, we showed our support for this campaign.

We ย talked about what racism can look like and how we can beat it by speaking up and showing our values. We were shocked to think that not everyone sees that it is our wonderful differences that make us unique and special.

Chocolate, chocolate! ๐Ÿซ

Some of us have been finding out more about delicious chocolate through our reading book. We have made flow charts to show the journey of a cocoa bean and designed our own chocolate creation.

We did a chocolate tasting activity where we used talking and listening and note making skills as we described the feel, smell and taste using as many adjectives as possible.

Reading for pleasure ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–

Thank you to the parents who supported us on our recent visit to the library. Chris showed us where to find fiction and non-fiction books and Miss Paterson gave us some tips on how to choose a book at the right level.

We enjoyed borrowing books and having the chance to read them in class and at home. We are looking forward to visiting the library again.

Solving problems together

We have been focusing on the strategy of ‘Act it out’ recently, using ourselves as the main resource!

In Technologies we were challenged to work in a team to build a bridge that could hold a toy car and then a heavy weight. We made good use of group discussion skills during the task and at the end when we shared feedback and advice.
