School Captain Elections

Yesterday, we held the elections for our new school captains. After all votes were counted, we are delighted to announce that our new captains are Ben Boulton-Jones and Emily Burgess. Congratulations. Well done to all candidates on their excellent campaigning.

Sports Day

Please click here for the order of events for details of tomorrow and Tuesday’s sports days. Lists of pupils who have qualified are on display in the PE corridor. Go straight to PE when you are due to take part.

Thank you

A lovely gift from our Parent Council today to say thank you to all staff for their support for pupils and parents throughout the last year.  The treats are much appreciated.  Thank you to the Parent Council for the treats and also their ongoing support of the school.

S3 DYW Event

On Tuesday, our new S3 pupils participated in a Developing the Young Workforce Event which looked at developing skills for life, learning and work. The pupils were challenged to create a product for a number of high profile companies and then present their work. We were very impressed with the work the pupils produced throughout the day and hope that they had an enjoyable experience.

Careers Advisor

We want to let you know that your Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisers are still available during the school summer holidays to help and provide you with the careers information and guidance you need for your future. Carers Week Pledges

East Renfrewshire Young Carers asked people across East Renfrewshire how they would pledge to support unpaid carers. Williamwood High School are fully committed to supporting our young carers.   Please see the Carers Week Pledges video here.

Blazer Braiding

Julie’s Alterations on Clarkston Road offers a braiding service for blazer braiding for pupils moving into S5 and S6. The shop is open Tuesday-Friday 9:30am -5:30pm & 2:30pm on a Saturday. No appointment required. Due to high demand over the summer, it would be helpful for blazers to be put in for braiding as soon as possible to ensure that it has been returned for start of school in August.
Blazers can also be submitted in school on Friday 11th June in the photocopying room. Blazers will be quarantined for 72 hours and then collected by Julie’s Alterations, be braided and then returned to school to be handed out. Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer. Please place your name in the inside pocket of your blazer.

Education Maintenance Allowance

Details on EMA for S5 and S6 pupils:

• If pupils are 16 years of age or over before 30 September 2021, they may be eligible for an EMA from August 2021. If the application is not submitted by 30 September 2021 the award will only be made from the week the application is received.

• If pupils are 16 years of age between 1 October 2021 and 28 February 2022, they may eligible for an EMA from January 2022. if the application is not submitted by 28 February 2022 the award will only be made from the week the application is received.

• The cut-off date for all EMA’s is 31st March 2022

Work Experience Opportunity

Looking for work experience? EDT are thrilled to announce our upcoming ‘Net Zero Virtual Work Experience’ programme. Alternatively this could be something students to do themselves or in class the last couple of weeks of term if their end of year transition is not before the term ends!

Open to S3-S6 students and school leavers across Scotland, the work experience programme gives students an insight into STEM industry and careers, and how Scotland’s route map to becoming carbon neutral is creating exciting new opportunities. The experience launches on 14th June with live sessions taking place from 21st to 24th June, the programme ends on 30th July.

Students will engage live with large and small companies including SSE, Viridor, GFG Foundation, Leidos and BP. They’ll also complete engaging modules virtually on our user-friendly learning management system including company videos, site visits, fun tasks and project work aiming to build their knowledge of Net Zero and STEM, and to develop their strengths, skills, horizons and networks. All students who complete this accredited programme will receive their Industrial Cadets Silver Award.

The modules are built around five themes: Technology, Renewable Energy, Oil and Gas, Construction and Infrastructure and Career Management Skills. See the attached flyer for more info.

Uk University and Apprenticeship Search Virtual Fair

The UK University & Apprenticeship Search Virtual Fair is taking place next week on Wednesday 16th June from 12 – 6pm. Students, teachers and parents can register for their free place here.

The event for students in Years S6, S5, S4 and S3, will feature a vast range of exhibitors and vital webinars. Exhibitors will include the universities’ of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Glasgow Caledonian, Strathclyde, SRUC, Warwick, Liverpool, Durham, Sheffield, York, Birmingham, Nottingham, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff and Lancaster, as well as the National Apprenticeships Service. University of Glasgow Update

Following the 20 May UCAS deadline,  we have now responded to all of our undergraduate applications for 2021 entry. Students should be able to see details of decisions and/or offers via UCAS track. Offer Holders now have until the 10 June to make their university firm & insurance choices – if any of your students have any further questions about studying at the University of Glasgow please encourage them to get in touch with us or attend one of our events below.
