Details on EMA for S5 and S6 pupils:

• If pupils are 16 years of age or over before 30 September 2021, they may be eligible for an EMA from August 2021. If the application is not submitted by 30 September 2021 the award will only be made from the week the application is received.

• If pupils are 16 years of age between 1 October 2021 and 28 February 2022, they may eligible for an EMA from January 2022. if the application is not submitted by 28 February 2022 the award will only be made from the week the application is received.

• The cut-off date for all EMA’s is 31st March 2022

Looking for work experience? EDT are thrilled to announce our upcoming ‘Net Zero Virtual Work Experience’ programme. Alternatively this could be something students to do themselves or in class the last couple of weeks of term if their end of year transition is not before the term ends!

Open to S3-S6 students and school leavers across Scotland, the work experience programme gives students an insight into STEM industry and careers, and how Scotland’s route map to becoming carbon neutral is creating exciting new opportunities. The experience launches on 14th June with live sessions taking place from 21st to 24th June, the programme ends on 30th July.

Students will engage live with large and small companies including SSE, Viridor, GFG Foundation, Leidos and BP. They’ll also complete engaging modules virtually on our user-friendly learning management system including company videos, site visits, fun tasks and project work aiming to build their knowledge of Net Zero and STEM, and to develop their strengths, skills, horizons and networks. All students who complete this accredited programme will receive their Industrial Cadets Silver Award.

The modules are built around five themes: Technology, Renewable Energy, Oil and Gas, Construction and Infrastructure and Career Management Skills. See the attached flyer for more info.

Last week, a group of our S1 pupils collected over 350 pieces of litter. The pupils really enjoyed helping to clean up the community and are already planning another collection next week.   Well done!

Julie’s Alterations on Clarkston Road offers a braiding service for blazer braiding for pupils moving into S5 and S6. The shop is open Tuesday-Friday 9:30am -5:30pm & 2:30pm on a Saturday. No appointment required. Due to high demand over the summer, it would be helpful for blazers to be put in for braiding as soon as possible to ensure that it has been returned for start of school in August.

Blazers can also be submitted in school on Friday 11th June in the photocopying room. Blazers will be quarantined for 72 hours and then collected by Julie’s Alterations, be braided and then returned to school to be handed out.  Payment can be made by cash or bank transfer.

LEGAL SERVICES VIRTUAL TASTER SESSION
This event is ideal for anyone who is considering a career in law. Perhaps you wish to practice law as a solicitor? Work with Police Scotland? Or simply love the law and how it affects society.

Pupils will get a small taster of what it is like to be a law student at City of Glasgow College: learning some law basics, analysing some scenarios, and coming together to discuss thoughts and views. Was he or she guilty? Did they receive a fair sentence for their crimes? There are no wrong answers, just different perspectives, and careful consideration of the evidence.

BUSINESS, ADMIN AND IT VIRTUAL TASTER SESSION
These business taster sessions are perfect for anyone who is considering studying business but not sure what course is right for them. With options such as: HNC/Ds in Business; Business with HR; Business with Enterprise; Administration and IT; and the Diploma of Higher Education in Business; there are many to choose from, so our virtual sessions are designed to help your pupils decide on the right course for them.

Pupils will get a taster of the key differences of each course and the progression opportunities on offer; as well as an insight of what it is like to be a business student at City of Glasgow College. Pupils will also have the opportunity to meet some of the lecturing team and get involved in business scenarios.
