All parents/carers of S2 pupils have been emailed with a letter which provides details of the upcoming Options Information Evening, which is taking place on Thursday 23 January 2020 from  7pm – 8.30pm in The Street.  This information evening will help you to support your child through an important transition in his/her school career. An information evening for parents of current S5 pupils will take place on Wednesday 8 January 2020.  The purpose of the evening is to introduce parents to the options process and to present the different subject choices and other opportunities available to students in S6.  A letter was emailed to parents/carers and a copy can also be viewed here.

A number of support groups and individual supports are available for pupils from S1-S6 to support their mental health.  If any pupil would like to access support, they can self-refer to a group/individual support by speaking to their Pupil Support teacher.  Parents/Carers can also contact their child’s Pupil Support teacher for more information or to make a referral.  More information can also be found here.

Skills Development Scotland are holding a subject choice event for parents/carers of S2 pupils on Wednesday 22nd January at Barrhead Foundry. Full details are in the attached letter.

We would like to wish all pupils, parents/carers and staff a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  School closes for the holidays at 2.30pm on Friday 20th December and re-opens on Monday 6th January at the normal time.

S2 pupils Elissa, Ahmad and Ellie are visiting Glasgow’s Simon Community homeless charity to deliver the donated items they have collected through their charity appeal.  Thank you for all the kind donations from young people, parents and teachers.

The recent STEM day attended by 50 second year pupils took place on Friday 13th December and was organised by Miss Gallagher, PT Design and Technology. The theme of the STEM day was a design and engineering task linked to the BP Ultimate Stem Challenge –https://bpes.bp.com/ultimate-stem-challenge

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) days provide short introductory sessions for S2 students to enhance their understanding of, and aptitude for, problem solving, creativity, design, and engineering. Pupils worked in teams of five to design and manufacture a prototype based on the concept of wearable technology.

Well done to all of the pupils who participated in this year’s STEM day and to the overall winners of the D&T shield. Congratulations to Grace, Reuben, Angelica, Harriet and Olivia who are pictured with Mrs Raeburn (S2 DHT).  The department would also like to thank Ken and Janice Maxted for the delivery of the event on the day.

Congratulations to Jamie, Robert and Daniel (S1) who played their last league match of the season for GHA on Sunday.  They finished top of the league and remain unbeaten this season.  Well done!
