First Bus has asked us to pass on the following messge:

Message from First Bus Glasgow

Failure to adhere to the rules relating to the wearing of face coverings on public transport poses a serious health risk to our drivers, other passengers on board (including schoolchildren), and indeed, the wider population in terms of potential transmission of coronavirus. If breaches of the wearing of face coverings are identified, we will be reporting them to Police Scotland.

I would be extremely grateful if you could relay this message in the strongest possible terms to pupils to help us keep everyone safe when travelling on our bus network.  The key messaging is:

  • Wear a face covering when boarding, travelling throughout, and alighting from the bus on every journey.  Exemptions only apply to those that have a medical condition that makes the wearing of a covering difficult.
  • Please only use seats that are not marked with our yellow seat sashes. If the seat has a sash, don’t use it.  This helps to enforce physical distancing and keeps everyone at a safe space from each other.
  • Try to wash your hands before and after you make any journey.

I hope that this information is helpful, and I look forward to your assistance in highlighting the importance of these requirements when travelling on our services. If there’s anything else we can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Your sincerely

Duncan Cameron

Operations Director

Miles to Malawi Challenge

The Williamwood Malawi Partnership are launching a ‘Miles to Malawi’ challenge this week and we will aim to cover 7,000 miles between this weekend and October 31st. We hope to raise at least £1 per mile as we walk, run or cycle the miles over the next five weeks with all money being used to fund the construction of three classrooms at Emazinyeni Primary School in conjunction with Classrooms for Malawi.

Please join us on our journey by downloading the Strava app on Google Play Store or the App store and joining our ‘Miles to Malawi’ club. You can also join our Google Classroom so please let us know if you would like to do so.

If you are unable to participate but would like to support us then you can donate at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/milestomalawi

Background:
A group of S6 pupils were due to visit Malawi in June with a group of S5 pupils due to visit in June 2021. Whilst the trips may not be able to go ahead, we want to ensure that we help improve the lives of children at Emazinyeni PS, many of whom are currently taught outdoors.

Pupil Achievement

S6 pupil John Kennedy has recently had one of his original compositions featured on YouTube by Electro Records. John composes electronic music using MIDI instruments, FL Studio and Ableton software. John’s composition, Step Down, has almost 600 views and over 100 comments on YouTube. You can listen to Step Down here.

All extra-curricular clubs (excluding indoor sports clubs*) will start on Monday 14th September. A reminder that you do not have to sign up to the clubs in advance, you can simply turn up on the day. All clubs are free for pupils to attend.
