Pupil support (learning)

The Pupil Support (Learning) department forms part of Williamwood’s Pupil Support team. The team works closely together, but the Pupil Support (Learning) Department work mainly with pupils who have additional support needs in their learning.

The Department has seven teachers namely Joan Martin (Principal Teacher), Carol Reid, Ann McKinlay, John Moffat, Dennis Murphy, Elaine Morris and Jacqui Hoy (Principal Teacher Pupil Support).  Nine Pupil Support Assistants also work closely with teachers in the classroom supporting pupils who have additional support needs.

In keeping with the Local Authority’s policy on Equality and Inclusion, the department works hard to ensure that the curriculum is appropriate for all pupils. This is made possible through curricular adaptation or differentiation in S1/S2 or, where necessary, through the creation of a flexible or individualised curriculum from S3.

A number of Access 2 courses in English and Communication, Maths, Numeracy, Home Economics, MER and ICT have been developed and are offered in S3/S4 and Language and Communication groups also run for pupils from S1-S4.

The department runs lunchtime clubs. The Chill Out Club is run every day and pupils have the opportunity to watch current films. The Computing Clubs run every days in two ICT suites and pupils enjoy playing games with and against each other.
