The Parents’ Faith Group

The Parents’ Faith Group offers parents an opportunity to spend time together in discussion and prayer. Each evening has a theme related to being a parent and developing faith in children.

The next meeting will be at 7.00pm on Tuesday 18 November in RE Room 2 and will finish with tea at 8.00pm. The theme will be ‘Intentional Disciples’ written by Sherry Weddell which considers how we evangelize today and makes some pertinent comments about developing and sustaining faith in children.

Monday Morning Prayer

As you know, we do not have Monday Mass during Ordinary Time but ‘Monday Morning Prayer’ is a pupil led initiative and will take place every Monday, except when we have Mass.

Head Girl Katie Dunn describes ‘Monday Morning Prayer’ :

‘Monday Morning Prayer’ gives pupils and staff the opportunity to join together in the Oratory to pray for the school community and each other’s intentions. During this time a Sixth Year will lead a ten minute session starting at 8.30am whilst inviting other members to participate in hymns, scripture and bidding prayers. Each week a focus will be given to the members for their prayer life and hopefully this quiet time will become something for pupils and staff to look forward to, where they can celebrate their faith.’

November Observances

‘We loved them in life, let us not forget them in death.’  St Ambrose.

As you may know the Month of November is highlighted in the Catholic Tradition as a time to pray for the dead and in particular those close to us. As in previous years, we intend to hold a brief Service of Remembrance at 12.25pm in our Oratory on Thursday 20 November 2014

During this Service, members of our community, staff and pupils, will be given the opportunity to light a candle in memory of close relatives who have died within the past twelve months or so. Of course, this Service is open to all regardless of faith.

Pupils will be informed and given the opportunity to participate through RE.

Any parent who would like to attend is more that welcome to do so. Pupils will be invited to tell their parents about the service and it will be highlighted on our webpage. We will also contact our local Parishes to invite members of the congregation with links to the school to attend if they so wish.

In order to ensure that we do not miss anyone from this Service, you are asked to speak to myself and the name of your deceased relative, by Monday 17 November 2014.

November Lists are a long standing tradition in the Catholic Church. Following the Biblical and Church Tradition we pray for our deceased that they may find eternal rest with God. Each member of staff has been given, via files, a November List to complete. If you have not received a list you can collect one from The Office, RE Department of myself. Completed lists will be placed in a basket before our altar and those people on the lists will be remembered in our Masses and Services throughout November.

Completed lists can be given to The Office, RE Department, myself or placed in the basket in The Oratory.

Yours sincerely

J. Cumming

S1 Spiritual Journal

Jesus Christ and His gospel form the centre of everything that we do here in Saint Ninian’s High School. We have a rich and stimulating programme of liturgy, prayer and service which combine to help us all grow into the people God wants us to be.

As a way of helping our new S1 students to enter reflectively into their career at Saint Ninian’s, they have all been issued with a 40 page Spiritual Journal. This free A5 booklet contains prayers for daily life and also some pages which support the pupils’ spiritual journal through the school year.

At several key points in the year (patronal feast, November, Advent, S1 Options, Lent, Annual Pilgrimage) pupils will be able to record their thoughts and memories. They will be supported to think about the ways in which God is present and active in their daily lives.

In his introduction to the booklet our Headteacher, Mr John Docherty, recalls the words of Pope Benedict when he came to Britain four years ago:

Jesus is always there, quietly waiting for us to be still with Him and to hear His voice. Deep within your heart, He is calling you to spend time with Him in prayer. But this kind of prayer, real prayer, requires discipline; it requires making time for moments of silence every day’

He goes on to say, “I am confident that in using your spiritual booklet, your knowledge and understanding of God and His love for you will be deepened and enriched so that your words and thoughts, prayer and action, will be a witness to the presence of Christ in your family, our school and our world.”

Please pray for our First Years and all our pupils, that they will know the closeness of God in every stage of their lives.
