Fishy update

The children continue to monitor, record and care for the hatchery daily. All of our eggs have now developed into Alvins and the children are enjoying watching them grow.

They have created posters and fact files illustrating the importance of The River Clyde in the past and present. This is because the burn that we hope to release the fish into runs into The River Clyde.

P6a are also participating in Eco schools Scotland marine litter competition and have researched the effects of pollution on marine life and how it can end up in the sea from Barrhead.  They created powerpoints and AWAY’s that they will share with the school across the coming weeks to raise awareness of the problem.

Outdoor learning

P6a took full advantage of the beautiful, fresh, but cold weather to take their art lesson outdoors.

We have been learning to work with clay over the last few weeks so the children had to source natural materials to add to their clay to create a face. As it was so cold, snowy and icy they had to use their skills of observation to find and source effective materials.

They loved this task and we will repeat it later on in the year so that they can compare and contrast the experience in different environmental conditions.

Clyde in the Classroom 1.2.19

At 9am the temperature was 9.3C which is a perfect temperature. We added 2 bottles of ice.

At 11am the temperature had dropped to 6.0. We added 1 bottle.

At 1:30pm we added 2 bottles as it is a Friday and we have to get the temperature as low as possible.

Science center visit

Primary 6a loved their visit to The Science center this week. They had plenty of time to explore all three floors and each child enjoyed discovering and experimenting with all the different activities.

Of course the reason for our visit was to prepare P6a for the imminent arrival of their new babies!

The hatchery will be delivered to the school this coming week and  we shall receive the fish eggs the week after. The children were enthusiastic and attentive as they were taught how to use the equipment and how to care for the fish. Regular updates will follow and please join us at our coffee and chat to hear about our journey and learning related to Clyde in the Classroom.

Mrs Nelson & Mrs McBrearty

First week of term 2!

What a busy first week back.

Children have been revising their Strong maths techniques from last term and working through their tasks.

They began reading “The Witches” by Roald Dahl.

From here we looked at descriptive language and stereotypes of witches.

This allowed them to create individualised visual images of a witch.

Maab and Nieve shared their science presentation with the class. Everyone was very impressed!

During problem solving the children took on the role of the teacher to explain their answers to algebraic problems.

Coffee and chat

Primary 6a would like to showcase their Clyde in the Classroom progress so.  They also wish to discuss how it is promoting sustainability and how it links in with the Eco schools Scotland competition.
