Numeracy and Mathematics

Mathematics is important in our everyday life, allowing us to make sense of the world around us and to manage our lives.  It equips us with the skills we need to interpret and analyse information, simplify and solve problems, assess risk and make informed decisions.

Children study basic number skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as developing problem-solving and practical skills and knowledge.  Oral and mental maths have a significant role to play in developing mental agility and to this end, some time is spent on this area of maths in each class on a daily basis, allowing for interactive learning.

Children learn different aspects of:

  • number, money and measure
  • shape, position and movement
  • information handling
