East Renfrewshire Carers’ are holding an evening on Thursday, 20 February at The Orchard Park Hotel in Giffnock from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. This evening is intended to give those caring for children and young people with Asperger’s an opportunity to meet with other parents, have time away from caring, share valuable information, get connected and talk with people who understand. If you would like to attend, please call the Carers’ Centre to book your place on 0141 638 4888.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we are proposing to use email as a method of communicating with parents. In order to set this up, a test email on will be sent out on Friday, 7 February to the main contacts of pupils, who entered an email address on the annual data check issued at the start of the session. If you receive this email, please DO NOT reply. If you are not in receipt of an email marked ‘test’, and wish to have your named added to our contact list, then we would ask you to send an email to the following address by Friday, 14 February, requesting that your name be added.

Please be assured that paper copies will be sent home, should you prefer this method and we will continue to use texts as a means of communication.
As you will appreciate the office is a very busy environment. The office staff are frequently interrupted with requests for forgotten items or messages to be passed onto children throughout the day and particularly first thing in the morning, when registration is taking place, and in the afternoon. In a large school, this can result in staff having to track down classes who are, on occasions, in PE or with specialists and not in their classroom. This is extremely disruptive and time consuming. I would advise that, unless of an emergency nature, messages will not be passed onto children.
I would also like to remind parents that we have a 24 hour policy in Mearns Primary for returning calls to allow time for teachers and Senior Management Team members to investigate, where necessary. If you are making a call to the office, please let the member of the office staff know the reason for your call and this will be directed to the appropriate staff member for their attention.
