It’s got pink on the front it’s got black on the front – must be for Goth girls…and well it kinda sorta is.
Girl with name shortened to boys name Rory (to make her funky and cool and hip I’m sure) comes alllllll the way from America to London to go to a posh school- happens all the time – hello Gossip Girl are you listening? And for the first 120 pages I was getting in to it… new school, quirky girl, potentially handsome but smart ( phew!) boyfriend, jolly hockeysticks and someone pretending to the Jack the Ripper – good work Maureen I thought so far so… oh oh and then the book goes all Buffy the Ghostieslayer and I, like a little library balloon, began to deflate.
Sure, the writing was still quirky and sometimes laugh out loud (or LOL for those under 21) but not quite for me. There are two more to this series and the ending did have a little amusing crackle to it BUT the books (my little library owl tells me) have been delayed twice; never a good sign and not sure if I am overly bothered by this.
HOWEVER, don’t just take my word on this quote from a pupil “I loved this – it was so cool can’t wait for the next ones”.
So, why not try it for yourself and see who you agree with OR even dun dun dun have your own opinion. Please let mw know I would really like to hear it.

Irish trouble
‘The Guns Of Easter’ written by Gerard Whelan. In my opinion it was a very enjoyable book. The genre is war and conflict.
The story begins in Dublin, Ireland where a boy called Jimmy and is family live in the slums. He goes through a journey which leads him all over Dublin. Although this is at a time where war has broken out and the Irish rebels are fighting the British for independency. Jimmy however has to go and get money from his Auntie who lives on the other side of Dublin. Jimmy makes many friends on the way both on the Irish side and British side. There are various themes in this book such as friendship and war. Will Jimmy be able to get of the streets in time before the British put a curfew in place to shoot on sight anyone who is seen outside?

One Choice can transform you
Well, that’s what it says on the cover of the book so it must be true!
If you Google the word Twilight at the moment you will invariable find someone wittering on (wrongly) about how if you liked drippy Bella and her unhealthy dead boy fascination you will like The Hunger Games – not true don’t listen to them – listen to me instead.
If you liked The Hunger Games there is a good chance you will enjoy Divergent by Veronica Roth. Another chunky monkey dystopian thriller of a book so set aside a good few days to indulge.
We have another strong female lead in the form of Triss who faces her own tough choices in an extremely regulated society much in the same way as Katniss Everdeen has to. However, Triss is a very different type of character – I would say she is harder to like and that is actually part of the appeal of the book – you can distance yourself from her and ask yourself what would you do and where would you choose to put yourself ? Unlike Katniss, Triss seems to want to put herself in danger by making a very difficult choice right at the beginning of the book. But, it is this choice that defines her future. She had to forget everything from her past life and recreate herself in the image of the… oh well that would be telling too much.
Go read, go enjoy and go be annoyed that the sequel – Insurgent is not out … yet!
Bunker 10 by J.A.Henderson
In this exciting book the story begins with the dramatic destruction of all the main characters, the main characters, a group of teenagers, are residents of the top secret and isolated Pinewood Military Base.
Jimmy Hicks, a 15 year old boy, unintentionally sets off a chain of unpredictable events involving time travel, genetic mutations, computer simulations, undercover operations, and violent explosions. With snappy dialogue, short chapters, and video-game-like action, this book will be a good match for many readers.
Boys will likely find the violence brilliant, and girls should appreciate the tragic love story and romantic conclusion. The author’s plot twists and surprise revelations will appeal to readers who like to be tricked. This book is one of the best I have ever read.
You feel sympathy for many of the characters, and the discovering the truth about Pinegrove was one of the biggest plot twists I have ever seen, in text and film.
I thought this book was the perfect example of a Thriller Novel because of its wonderful plot and fast-paced action. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Thriller or Action books or to anyone who hasn’t yet read a Thriller Book.

Frozen in Time by Ali Sparkes
After A BORING SUMMER Ben and Rachel certainly didn’t think that they would find an underground lavatory in their back garden. It was created by a previous scientist who had lived in their house, fearful that that time a nuclear war was going to occur. He built it for shelter but also, as a scientist, had been experimenting in ‘freezing’ his children if a nuclear war was to occur. This was so they could have basically eternal life.
After finding and exploring the lavatory Ben and Rachel found in a far room two missile looking containers. Actually, this contained two children the same age as Ben and Rachel who had been frozen successfully by their father since 1950s. After finding and retrieving the two children they bulk of the story began as the two children Freddy and Polly tried to fit into modern day life.
An amusing story which ends as Polly and Freddy find their father who had been frozen somewhere in Russia and had been found and released and had returned to England in hope his son and daughter had been a success. It ends as they walk through the streets in London, trying to think what to do fit into their new life.
It was an extremely enjoyable book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is searching for a good Thriller.
