West of Scotland MSP, Stewart Maxwell, recently visited Carlibar Primary School to present prizes to students who participated in a European-wide art competition.

Mr Maxwell nominated the school to represent Scotland in the competition and students submitted art work based on the theme of ‘my region, my future’.

The three talented competition winners were P6 pupils, Jack  (1st place), Chelsea Anne  (2nd place) and Chelsey  (3rd place). Each student won a luxury coloured pencil set and postcards of their winning art work.

The participation of all P6 students also meant that Carlibar Primary won a new digital camera, which was accepted on behalf of the school by Head Teacher Mrs MacIntyre.

Stewart Maxwell MSP said,

“Students were asked to create artwork illustrating their vision of Barrhead in the future. The winning submissions were presented at a display in Brussels and Scotland’s contribution was amongst the very best from the 8 participating nations.

“The completed artwork shows that students from Carlibar Primary are optimistic about Barrhead’s future – and having met with the hardworking P6 students I’m certain that we can be optimistic about the town’s future too.

“I’d like to congratulate Jack, Chelsea Anne and Chelsey on their well deserved prizes. The students of Carlibar should be very proud of their achievements and I was delighted to have the opportunity to nominate them for this European-wide competition.”
