Show Racism the Red Card!

Thanks to the work done by the Community Committee, we all wore red today to Show Racism the Red Card!

In class we watched some videos about what this campaign does within society, sport and schools. From there we designed our own posters promoting the end of racism. Some of the slogans we came up with were ‘Stay calm and say no to racism’ and ‘RACISM WRONG’.

As a class we decided that our ‘show racism the red card’ posters could stay up in the classroom throughout the year, so that we can consistently think about ways to show racism the red card!

Visit to Central Mosque.

Today, we went on a trip to the Central Mosque in the Gorbals in Glasgow. There, we had the oppportunity to learn lots of different things, ranging from the architecture of the mosque to the times of the prayers.

One interesting fact that we learned was that in the mosque, green is a common colour because this is the favourite colour of The Prophet Muhammad.

Another thing that we learned was that during prayer, you stand and sit and only some people are allowed chairs if they are older or if they have a disability.

We also learned that women and men are separated in the mosque for washing and praying.

In the prayer room, there are no pictures or distractions so that people can focus on their prayers.

Overall, we had a great time and we were fortunate to learn a lot more facts which we will enjoy exploring further in RME!
