Katie Morag and life on an Island

katiemorag2_2779781b

We have been learning about Katie Morag. Katie has two grandmothers who are very different. Katie lives on the Isle of Struay which is actually the Isle of Coll. We have been looking at maps of the UK and found the Isle of Coll which is just off the West coast of Scotland. The lady who wrote the Katie Morag books grew up on the Isle of Coll.

Commander Chris Hadfield

Chris_Hadfield_2011

On Wednesday 25th March, we were lucky to have a Glow Meet with Commander Chris Hadfield, a real life astronaut. Unfortunately we could not see him in Mexico but we could hear him on the telephone. Primary 1 asked him if the moon was made of cheese? Commander Hadfield said no it was made of part of the Earth.

Rebekah thought Commander Hadfield was very brave to go into space.

We watched some of his videos and laughed out loud at him catching the floating water while he tried to brush his teeth.

Isla enjoyed watching him try to sleep in space. He had a sleeping bag tied to the wall to stop him floating away.

Rebecca thought the water would sting when he showed us that you can not cry in space, because the water makes a big bubble on your cheek.

We enjoyed talking to Commander Hadfield and have learned loads about living in space.

Solar Eclipse

SOLAR ECLIPSE

This morning, we went outside to watch the Solar Eclipse. We made Pinhole Viewers out of paper plates to make sure that we were safe. When we got up to the pitch, we saw the moon and the sun. Although it was very cloudy, we managed to see some of it. This is how some of us felt………………………….

Imogen- “excited”

Matthew- “flabbergasted”

Heather “nervous”

Atiya “happy”

Alex “scared”

When we got back to class, we drew what we saw using yellow for the sun and black for the moon.

Health & Wellbeing

feelings

This week we have been discussing different feelings. We have learned that it’s ok to feel angry but it’s how you deal with it, that really matters.  There are lots of different ways to deal with anger……………………..

  • Counting to 10 and staying calm
  • Taking a time out
  • Speaking to the person who made you feel angry
  • Walking away

In P2, we always help out each other and we know that we don’t always have the same feelings, at the same time as our friends.

2015

Happy New Year! We have all come back from the holidays, ready to work hard. In Science, we have been finding out about different materials. We did an experiment to see which materials were waterproof and found out that the plastic bag was waterproof.

We have made target cards that we are going to keep on our desks, to remind us of our targets that we are working towards.

People From The Past

We have been learning all about Neil Armstrong. Did you know that he was the first man to walk on the Moon?  In Art, we made pictures of the Solar System using different coloured paint. We put our paintings up on our ‘Art Gallery’ to show them off.

We are now learning about Pocahontas and why she is famous.

Thank you!

Thank you for coming to our Circus Afternoon. We hope that you enjoyed it as we had lots of fun! You helped us to raise £87 and we are going to buy lots of new things for the classroom.
