This morning we had our K’nex Challenge! Our challenge was to create a go-kart which was between 10-20 tall and 10-30 with its own steering mechanism to turn left and right. We had an hour to discuss, plan and build our designs before the winners were announced! See the process below…

Following our planning stage, we met with the judges to ensure that our design met the brief, and  to answer some of their questions about design choices.

Well done to all of our finalists who took part in the challenge, and a huge congratulations to our runners up, Alex and Ryan, and our winners, Ewan and Samyan! Our winning team will attend the next stage of the competition, the semi-finals, in May! Stay tuned for their K’nex journey!

A huge well done to Rebecca, Alexa, Eden, Aisha and Matthew who all helped to present our assembly this morning. Rebecca and Alexa did a fantastic job of presenting, Eden was excellent with the tehcnology, and Aisha and Matthew gave a wonderful input all about our Intergenerational work. The assembly went on without a hitch, and many of the teachers commented on what a wonderful job all of these primary 6 helpers did. Well done everyone!

Also, GOOD LUCK to Rebecca, who is taking part in the East Renfrewshire Dancing Competition tonight! We can’t wait to hear how you get on!

ExPLORE Homework Task –

It has been really exciting to hear about some of the projects which are underway already! Keep up this enthusiasm, and keep working on it. Remember, the due date in next Wednesday (27th). Please ask if you have any questions.

This week in primary six we have been preparing for our forthcoming K’nex Challenge due to take place next week.

We started with simple challenges such as creating various 2D and 3D shapes but quickly progressed on to constructing more complex models, like wheelbarrows, see-saws and sailboats. Through this we’ve also looked at constructing levers and pulleys, analysing how this can add to a design by making certain functions easier to carry out.

ExPLORE Homework Task –

Dear Parent/Carer,

As part of your child’s homework this term, I would like them to complete a personal research task.

To carry out research, the children have been learning to use the ExPLORE approach. ExPLORE stands for plan, locate, organise, represent and evaluate. There is some further information about this approach in your child’s homework diary.

Our Interdisciplinary Learning Topic this term is The Victorians. So far, we have looked at a large range of aspects of life during the Victorian Era such as workhouses, fashion, food, and even architecture. Your child should select an area of the Victorian Era that they are particularly interested in, and carry out research using the ExPLORE approach. They may choose to research an area that has not been covered in class.

The finished piece of work could be in the form of a poster, PowerPoint presentation (four or five slides maximum) or even a 3D model.  Each pupil should be prepared to talk to the class about their research project.

The finished work should be submitted by Wednesday 27th March. This allows us two days to present and feedback before the end of term. If you have any questions or would like some further information, please do not hesitate to ask.

Please check the previous post for information regarding Red Nose Day! Fun celebrations and fundraising due to take place on Friday!

Red Nose Day is on Friday 15^th March!

The Braidbar Pupil Council members have organised some fundraising activities on this day. We would encourage children to come to school on Friday 15^th March wearing an item of red, and/or a Red Nose Day accessory and to bring a chocolate donation. In the afternoon a chocolate tombola will take place and each class will be invited along for their chance to win! Tickets are priced at 20p each.

 As well as this, the lovely dinner ladies are making some Red Nose Day jammy biscuits! These will be 40p (cash) and can be pre-ordered from Monday 11^th March.

We can’t wait to raise some money for this worthwhile charity who help vulnerable people in the UK and internationally!

Braidbar Pupil Council

We celebrated by sharing our favourite books and props with each other this morning.   We also listened to an audio book and played a game to guess the book from extracts we wrote!

On Monday Primary 6 were set a challenge to work as a team and create a stack of pancakes, 2 per person, within a budget.  They had to research the recipe they wanted to use, calculate costs, measurements and decide on what toppings they could afford to decorate their pancakes with.  

Yesterday the pupils got baking and creating and what results they produced.  The pancakes looked incredible and they tell me they tasted amazing.  The attention to detail each group put in with their presentation was very impressive.

Presenting to the class this morning they got the chance to reflect on the brief, what they would do differently if given the chance and how well they think they spent their budget.

As World Book Day falls this Thursday, reading homework is to read for 10 minutes each night completely for pleasure! Please be prepared to talk about the book you have been reading, such as main character, main idea and favourite parts. Pupils are more than welcome to choose a book from the class or school library to start reading this week if they wish.

Maths 

This weeks maths homework can be found in the homework section of Education City. Please ensure that the three assigned tasks are completed by the end of the week. If you have any issues accessing this, please let me know.
