Maths – Education City

School Show –  Please practise the four songs for the show as much as possible. Get your family involved!

Cinderella and Rockerfella Backdrops

As with previous shows, we are looking to create the backdrops for the show with an illustration from each class. Please ensure that these are on A4 paper and are landscape.

P5 – Create the inside of a glamorous hotel room

There will be a class prize for the best backdrop design. All backdrops should be handed in by Friday 4^th May.

Sports Event at Giffnock Tennis Club 

Primary 5 will be participating in a sports event on Tuesday morning. The bus will leave at 9.10 am and return to school before lunch. Pupils should wear outdoor sports clothing and bring a bottle of water.

Maths – Sumdog or Hit the Button

Angela McGarrigle visited Primary 5 this afternoon as part of the UK Parliament Outreach Education programme. We learned lots of interesting facts about MPs, voting and how laws are passed in Parliament. Primary 5 asked some very interesting questions!

Primary 5 also took part in a lively debate.

Debate question

Should children have an hour of exercise every day?

They learned about the rules of a real debate. They made excellent points for and against the debate question. Primary 5  had great fun learning about debating in a very professional manner!

There was a vote at the end and here are the results.

Well done!

 

Mr Gordon set four missions for the Primary 5 Spies. They were to investigate and solve each mission by gathering clues and interpreting data.

Primary 5 worked very hard but it was a bit of a challenge. Only one group solved all four missions. Well done to Zara and Ryan!

 

 

Reading Challenge 

As part of the First Minister’s Reading Challenge, The Library Committee are hoping to find out how far your book can travel. Over the holidays, please take a book with you on an outing and bring in a photo of you reading it, with a note of how many miles it travelled from your home.

e.g. take your book to Spain and snap a picture of you reading at the pool or take your book to the zoo……….

Maths –  Sumdog competition

 

Primary 5 visited Vikingar, Largs. We had fabulous time and the children were a credit to the school. We got the opportunity to look round a longhouse, find out more about Viking gods and watch a film about the Battle of Largs. Our favourite part was dressing up as Vikings and trying on some helmets!

William – I enjoyed visiting Valhalla.

Adam – I liked it when people dressed up.

Muriam – I really enjoyed the longhouse.

Samyan – I enjoyed trying on the helmets in the longhouse.

Alexa – My favourite part was the longhouse and Valhalla.

Vikingar! – We are looking forward to visiting Vikingar on Friday. Please remember to bring a packed lunch in a disposable bag. Please wear comfortable clothes.

What is a Global Citizen?

Pupils worked in groups to discuss global citizenship. Pupils worked together to discuss different statements and put them in an order of importance. The most popular statements at the top were:

• I am as important as everyone else.
• Everyone is equal to me but different from me.

After that, pupils selected three statements that were important to them personally and created a poster for the Rights Respecting display.
