Mandala Art

mandala (Sanskrit: मण्डल, maṇḍala; literally “circle”) is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a centre point.

Primary 5 created beautiful mandala designs during Art. This was linked to the study of Buddhism in Religious and Moral Education.

Light!

This term, Primary 5 are studying Light as part of the Science curriculum. We have been looking at light sources and reflectors. Did you know that the moon is not a light source? It is a reflector. It reflects the light of the Sun.

We carried out some experiments to find out if materials were transparent, translucent or opaque.

Transparent materials allow all the light to pass through.

Translucent materials allow some light to pass through.

Opaque materials do not allow light to pass through them.

Also, we worked in small groups to present our findings to the rest of the class.

By exploring reflections, the formation of shadows and the mixing of coloured lights, I can use my knowledge of the properties of light to show how it can be used in a creative way.
