On Friday we had a visit from our Campus Cop, Grant. We all came up with questions we wanted to ask him. Some of these included ‘what inspired you to become a police officer?’, ‘what studies did  you need to complete to become a police officer?’, ‘what has been your favourite day of work so far?’ and ‘what has been your trickiest case to solve so far?’ Overall, we loved this question and answer session with Grant.

On the same day, we also had a workshop from KPMG, all about cyber safety and online security. Ask to see our yearly calendars and book marks to jog our memories on the details of this presentation!

The Halloween Party is set to take place this week. Entry is £2 at the door and it is set to be a spooktacular fun-filled evening!

Primary 6 also have the pleasure of participating in a workshop as a part of ‘Cyber Week’, which will focus on online security and keeping safe online. In addition to this, our Campus Cop will also be paying our class a visit this Friday.

At the end of last term, we enjoyed preparing and cooking some delicious banana bread as part of our Fairtrade topic (with all Fairtrade ingredients, of course!)

In addition to exploring various fairtrade ingredients, we also got to practise our skills in accurately measuring in grams and kilograms, converting between the two when necessary, and reading a variety of scales.

As part of our Fairtrade topic, last week we visited our local Morrisons to compare fairtrade and non-fairtrade products. Although we predicted the fairtrade products to be more expensive, this wasn’t always the case. Even in instances where Fairtrade was more expensive, this was often only by a few pence.

Back in class, we’ve spent time learning about Fairtrade products and the journeys they take to make it to Britain. We also took part in a blind chocolate tasting to see if there is a difference in flavour between Fairtrade and non-Fairtrade products.

In terms of our favourite flavour, it was a die between Fairtrade milk chocolate and non-Fairtrade milk chocolate. We displayed these results in a bar graph which is now up on our Fairtrade wall.

As part of our Fairtrade topic, we’ll be visiting our local Morrisons on Thursday morning to search for Fairtrade products and take part in some Numeracy based challenges. Please see the letter below for more details.

As part of this topic we will also be creating a new classroom wall display using Fairtrade product packaging. Can you please bring in as much Fairtrade packaging (anything which bears the Fairtrade logo) throughout the week as possible in order to make our display as colourful and as Fairtrade as it can be!

Due to the September Weekend, school will be closed this Friday and next Monday (21st and 24th). I hope you all enjoy this mini break!

As part of our learning around Maths Week Scotland, we had the opportunity to take part in lots of different activities last week.

On Tuesday, we took part in some outdoor learning, to show us how maths can be used anywhere, anytime!

 

We also had a visit from David and Sangeetha, a team from the Royal Bank of Scotland. They taught us about flowcharts and operational research, and together we discussed how maths is used in the real world and real jobs.

We also took part in the Smartie Challenge! In small groups, we used various data handling skills to create charts and graphs about the different coloured contents of each tube. And then, of course, we enjoyed our smarties as an extra snack at lunch!

As it is Maths Week Scotland, we will be immersing ourselves in all things Maths! We have a workshop on Thursday looking at Maths in the real world, and a visit from a parent to talk about how maths relates to jobs and the world of work. For homework, please complete four of the activities of your choice and write down any notes, working or calculations in the grid provided.
