We are learning all about welcoming a baby in different religions. This week we learnt about how a Christian baby is welcomed into the world. We are looking forward to learn about different ways Babies are welcomed into the world.In Maths we played a game called ‘popcorn’ to help us learn about odd and even numbers. We were making puppets of people who help us. We are very excited because Miss Kearney is going to be telling us what our new topic will be for this term when we come back to school next week. We are all looking forward to working hard this term.
Our Last week at school in December
This week has been a very exciting and busy week. We have all been happy and we are so proud that we have been working so hard since August. Miss Kearney tells us that we deserve a break for all our hard work. We decided to make a Santa’s workshop in our imaginative area. We were all very busy making machines, elf ears, presents and toys for lots of boys and girls.
We made paper chains, candy canes, Santa faces and model Santas and elves-we have been very busy with our hands and imaginations. We really enjoyed creating the area ourselves and drawing plans for it. When it was finished we were so proud and we thought Santa would love it and want to come and work in our P1 classroom! Then we could say ‘Hello Santa!’
In the New Year we are looking forward to seeing Miss Kearney again when she gets back from Ireland. We are also looking forward to working with the P2s again – and maybe doing book buddy tasks. We will be excited to see all of our friends again and we hope that we get a chance for another trip to the library or a museum. We are also very excited to find out our new topic. Merry Christmas from everyone in P1. We hope Santa comes and is good to all of you.
Mary’s Knitting
In December we prepared for our School Show. We worked with Mrs Brown and the P2s to learn our songs and our lines. We worked so hard to tell the Christmas story so that the ladies and gentlemen in the audience knew what we were saying. We were so happy and excited before our performance.
We knew a lot of the audience who came to see us. All the school came to see us on stage for our dress rehearsal. We loved putting our costumes and we really got into character. We just loved it. Our teacher Miss Kearney said she was so proud of each and every one of us. She was so happy and knew that P1 could do it! We used the saying ‘I think I can, I know I can, I will’ before we went on stage. We all spoke so confidently and we really enjoyed it.
Visit to Giffnock Library
On 27th November P1 visited the library a Bookbug pack. We were so excited to go along as we had been reading the books in class. We walked there and we met lots of nice people along the way. We saw two dogs, we saw lots of places where electricity was being used and we saw the train station.
When we arrived, some of our mums, dads and little brothers and sisters were waiting for us. A lady showed us all around the library and she read us two funny books. We got out pictures taken and had a fabulous time.
When we got back to school we wrote some jokes. Hahaha!
Robot Rumpus
This week we heard the story ‘Rumpus Robot’ and then some of the class made robots. We also made our own picture story books about our friends and what they liked. We made shapes and worked on our balancing skills in P.E. A special visitor came in on Thursday and spoke to us about work as a Nurse and she showed us her belt and her Lanyard with her ID. Next Thursday we are going on a visit to Giffnock Library -we are so excited!
Our Agree Tree
This week we were making our class charter. THis is because we are learning about all of our rights. We took stones, leaves and sticks from outside to make animals. We twisted big bits of brown paper and put sticks on it for the branches. We stuck leaves on the walls.
We did an activity for the Rights Respecting School topic all about our wants and needs. Ben says you don’t need your own laptop because we have computers in school. Laura says we don’t need our own TV because we could play games instead. Harris says we don’t need an IPod. Raine says that is because we can sing our own songs.
On Tuesday Primary one went to Eastwood Theatre to see When Trolls try to eat your Goldfish! The actor was eating a carrot that he turned into a fish. Musa got to hold the fishbowl and it was a very exciting thing to get to do. We really enjoyed it and we laughed lots and lots! We loved it. We made sure that we said thank you to our helpers Helen and Claire. We thanked the actors, and Rebecca who took our tickets.
…To say thank you to our bus driver Joe we sang lots of songs for him on the bus!
Friday 7th November
Today we watched P3 and Mrs Mc Naught do their class assembly. One of our favourite parts was when they were showing their artwork. They told us all the things they have been learning about. They sang a song in French all about the different parts of their body.
In Social Studies we have been learning about People Who Help Us. We did a worksheet to match up names and pictures. We also read books about Kipper going to the optician and the doctor. We have learned that we need to drink lots of water, we need to eat healthy food and wash our hands before we eat.
In Big Writing we wrote an imaginative story about People Who Help Us. We are so excited about next week and going on our Class trip.
Helpful Hands in P1
In Primary one we use helpful hands in case somebody falls over. This week we learned a new game making CVC words. We had to roll a dice, look at the picture then make the word with magnets. Last week we learned a new poem. It was called Five little fishes.
This week we learned two different poems – Three little witches and the witches of Halloween. In our Big Writing we were learning to write Acrostic poems.

Our learning this week
We were all so happy to be back at school and share our news about what we had been doing during the October break. This week we have been starting our tooth brushing programme and we have all got to know what our symbol and colour of toothbrush is. We have all enjoyed brushing our teeth and remembering that it is important for a healthy body.
In Maths we have been learning a doubles song using our hands. We can do double totals to 10 up the way and back down to 0! We feel so proud of ourselves. We have also been doing our number sheets. Today we drew three faces on a wall.

Our visit from the nurses
09-10-14
Today we had a special visit from four nurses who were called Marie, Carmel, Joyce and Rachel.
We learned to sort foods into healthy and not healthy groups. We had a chance to eat healthy food when we were making fruit and vegetable skewers. We also learned which type of food is good for your eyes-Carrots!
We learned a new word-protein. Protein is found in meat like chicken, ham and beef. Milk and cheese are important for your teeth and bones.
