A famous author and illustrator told us some stories that they had written (Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam) and showed us how to illustrate. They didn’t come into class but we saw them in an internet broadcast. We used our listening skills to draw a picture of Slippery Sam.

CASTLE LIFE

This week we compared our lives to that of a medieval child. We learned that their lives were very different to ours. They didn’t have things like different foods or education – they didn’t enjoy all the rights that we do.

ART AND DESIGN

We decided to paint our own imaginary castles using shape, colour and line. The style was inspired by Paul Klee.

Learning through play

SCIENCE

We’ve been learning about magnetism. To show how magnets work (and to be creative) we made our own games. We are going to play our games with P1 and teach them a little bit about magnets.

TECHNOLOGIES

We built lots of different castles with cardboard and other materials. We included features of castles like towers, drawbridge and battlements. Miss Paterson thought we worked well in our teams.

LINE OF THE WEEK

We got the line of the week award so we got some extra playtime.

Hassan – I felt so happy to play on the monkey bars.

Stella – I was proud of myself.

Harris – I was so happy.

Salihah – I felt proud of the whole class.

Charlie – We’ve loved the first term.

People’s Palace

This term, we have been looking at Glasgow in the past and comparing it to the present.

To help us in our learning, Miss Ghaffar arranged a visit to the People’s palace for us today. We were able to have a look at how life was in the past and take part in some activities.

We began our visit by having our lunch in the winter gardens. This was nice and relaxing!

After this we went for a walk through the winter gardens and saw all of the lovely plants.

After this we were taken to visit ‘The Steamie’, ‘Doon the water’ and ‘the single end’. These were all very interesting.

Primary 2 chefs!

Today we were very excited to take part in our first baking session. We really enjoyed ourselves while baking scones. We learned lots of new skills.

First of all we had to sieve the flour into a bowl. We were very careful so that we didn’t make a mess of the carpet.

DSC04101

After this, we had to rub in the margarine until our mixture resembled breadcrumbs. This was very tricky..but we managed it!

Once we had finished this, we added the milk and mixed it into a soft dough.

DSC04104     DSC04106

Once our dough was formed we were ready to roll the dough out to shape our scones. We used scone cutters to make different shapes.

Finally we baked them in the oven.

We really enjoyed cooking today and look forward to our next cooking lesson.

First of all we got to find out about the history of the building and what it is used for today.

We were then taken into the board room to have a look at all of the trophies!
