People’s Palace

This term, we have been looking at Glasgow in the past and comparing it to the present.

To help us in our learning, Miss Ghaffar arranged a visit to the People’s palace for us today. We were able to have a look at how life was in the past and take part in some activities.

We began our visit by having our lunch in the winter gardens. This was nice and relaxing!

After this we went for a walk through the winter gardens and saw all of the lovely plants.

We were then split into 4 groups to complete some activities.

We were creating timelines of different objects used in the past and the present.

we were able to vote on which items we would prefer to use.

After this we were taken to visit ‘The Steamie’, ‘Doon the water’ and ‘the single end’. These were all very interesting.

Here we are washing some clothes at the Steamie,

Primary 2 chefs!

Today we were very excited to take part in our first baking session. We really enjoyed ourselves while baking scones. We learned lots of new skills.

First of all we had to sieve the flour into a bowl. We were very careful so that we didn’t make a mess of the carpet.

After this, we had to rub in the margarine until our mixture resembled breadcrumbs. This was very tricky..but we managed it!

Once we had finished this, we added the milk and mixed it into a soft dough.

Once our dough was formed we were ready to roll the dough out to shape our scones. We used scone cutters to make different shapes.

Finally we baked them in the oven.

We really enjoyed cooking today and look forward to our next cooking lesson.

First of all we got to find out about the history of the building and what it is used for today.

We were then taken into the board room to have a look at all of the trophies!
