Scots Verse
It was lovely to see lots of children dressed in tartan today to celebrate Robert Burns. Today we listened to some Scots Verse recitals. Some of the popular poems were: A Dug A Dug, Sair Finger and A Red, Red Rose. We heard some fabulous accents and lots of tricky words were pronounced correctly. Some children brought in props and memorised their poems to make their presentation even more engaging. Well done to everyone!
Also, we tried to translate some Scottish words and phrases. We found this quite tricky and there were some very strange suggestions!
We were bamboozled by the following words:
Laldie – to do vigorously, get stuck in
Bealin – very angry, raging
Braw – beautiful
Glaikit – foolish, not very bright
Gallus – bold, cheeky
Some of our favourite phrases were:
“Yer aff yer heid!”
“Haud yer wheesht!”
“Ah dinnae ken!”
