People in our community and their jobs #2

Lots of us have shown we know some things about the police and how they help us. We wanted to know more and to meet a police officer.

Grant (our Campus Cop) came to play in nursery and talk to us about his job. He helped us to think about how to keep safe at Hallowe’en and on Bonfire night too.

WHAT IS THAT?

IT’S A TORCH. I HAVE ONE LIKE THAT AT HOME.

YOU KEEP US ALL SAFE.

YOU CATCH BAD GUYS.

I HAVE A POLICE OUTFIT. MY HANDCUFFS ARE NOT PLASTIC. THEY ARE REAL METAL.

THE WALKIE TALKIE IS TO PHONE OTHER POLICE OFFICERS TO ASK THEM TO HELP YOU.

Literacy learning

We enjoy stories and playing with and exploring words and sounds. We are developing skills in reading, writing and talking + listening.

Lots of us are especially interested in stories about Winnie the Witch and information books about animals and people who help us.

We are trying to use questions and friendly words to invite our friends to play and join in.

A new friend! 🐛

We were excited upon the arrival of a new creature in the nursery! Our Code-a-pillar was released from its box through some good team work and we enjoyed our first meeting.

In the coming weeks our Code-a-pillar will help us to learn how to plan a sequence of instructions and programme them into a toy.

Super Senses!

We can use our five senses to explore and describe the world around us.

“It feels sticky”

”They look like wriggly worms”

”It’s all wet”

”It smells like soap”

”They make a different noise”

“I like it. It smells like sweeties.”

“It’s smooth”

“I think it’s ginger.”

People in our community and their jobs #1

Some of the firefighters from Clarkston Fire Station  paid us a visit. Lots of us have been reading and talking about firefighters. We know that they put out fires but help with other emergencies like floods or car accidents too.

We each took a turn to use the special hose.

“It was so strong. I had to hold tight.”

” The water was powerful. ”

“My daddy is a fireman.”

” I was a bit scared but then I was brave and I tried it. ”

“They go up the long ladder to help people.”

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt!

We have been exploring characters and events in stories.

Lots of us have enjoyed retelling ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt’ and have even ventured outside to find our own bear!

“We can’t go under it. We can’t go over it. Uh oh! We need to go through it!”

“It feels all squishy.”

“The den is like the bear’s cave.”

“It’s a little bit scary but we’re safe in nursery.”

“The muddy bit comes next.”

“I want to get the bear. I think he is friendly.”

Pop In and Play…read…explore…talk…sing…

We loved having family members join us in the playroom, Secret Garden and around the school. We were proud to show them our nursery and tell them about the things we do and learn. Thank you to all who attended.

Please continue to pop in for our Lending Library each Wednesday.

We will soon be sending home your child’s individual learning book to give you further insight into their nursery experience and allow you and your child to share what is important to you.
