They have linked up with the partner school and also had some time sightseeing and learning about the culture of the host country. This has included a visit to the Great wall.

euanEuan performed a tea ceremony at the partnership school; however this Sunday (tomorrow), Nicola Sturgeon is meeting with the group in Beijing and Euan has been selected to speak to her. He’ll be inviting her back to Barrhead for a cuppa next!

The BBC will be there too so look out for some mentions in the media!

We are looking forward to a full report on their return.

Italy Ski Trip – Feb 2015

Ski

This year’s Ski Trip staff and pupils were highly IT literate. They kept us informed daily via TWITTER of their progress with pictures and tweets.

They also took the school’s new GoPro video camera. This camera is the size of a matchbox and can be fastened to your body on a special harness. It is designed to give action filming while taking part in sporting activities – and skiing was the ideal sport to try it out on.

Pupils and staff took turns at wearing the camera and filmed lots of the action.

On their return, our talented school Media Technician, Matthew Mathieson,  downloaded some of the clips and put them together into an action-packed film. Check it out below!

Barrhead High pupil, Kirsty McGinley (S4) made the long journey north on Saturday to compete in the Scottish Schools Swimming Finals held in Aberdeen.

Kirsty finished in third place, earning herself a bronze medal in the 400m Individual Medley. She also made sixth place in the 200m Individual Medley.

Not wanting to rest on her laurels, Kirsty then headed on Sunday to North Ayrshire where she achieved a bronze in the 800m freestyle , a gold in the 200m breaststroke and a gold in the 200m backstroke.

Fantastic performances yet again – well done Kirsty – we are all really proud of you.

Creative Writing Group

The Creative Writing Club went to see ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the Citizens Theatre.  Everyone was enthralled by the performance and it gave them inspiration for new stories. Here are some of the reactions:

  “Really good.”

“It let my creativity expand.”

“It was beautifully disturbing.”

“Magical.”
“Really, really, really, really good.”

The latest edition of ‘Barrhead Banter’, the group’s magazine, has now been published.  Copies are in the English classrooms and the library, but if you want to read a story now, click on the link above.

The group meets in Room 35 on Monday and Thursday lunchtimes.  New members are always welcome.
