It’s STEM Week 2018

This week is British Science Week 2018 – celebrating everything STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths).

In school, all students will be given a presentation highlighting some amazing science facts, and given the opportunity to get involved in a science treasure hunt (prizes for the winners!).

For parents, discussing STEM skills and careers is a great way to inspire your child. We hope this STEM Careers Activity Pack will help with this.

S2 Parents’ Information Evening – postponed from last week

The S2 parents information meeting about option pathways going into S3 was postponed last Tuesday due to the weather. It will now take place tomorrow Tuesday (6th March) at 7pm in the Big Steps area.

Pupils were given 2 booklets today. One gives a description of the courses potentially available (depending on uptake) and the other gives information about the choices, how they will be made and what supports we will have in place.

Please check in schoolbags!

SCHOOL CLOSURE – Friday 2nd March 2018

The Amber Warning for Snow has been extended.  Additionally, it has not been possible to secure sufficient snow ploughing for school car parks and drop off areas, given the high demand on such services. Snow clearance is required before gritting can take place.   Pavements are also unlikely to be treated around main entrances by tomorrow morning.  The weather conditions remain not conducive to safe travel.

All schools and early years establishments in East Renfrewshire will therefore remain closed tomorrow (Friday). Staff and pupils should not attend.

As the closure continues, remember to make use of the school website, Yammer, GLOW and SQA website for past papers to keep up with your preparations for exams – particularly for S4, 5 & 6.

At present we are still expecting the Ski Trip to leave as planned on Saturday morning – at the school by 9.40 am. Bring additional snacks for journey in case of any delays. Keep checking Twitter 2016barrheadski

Again a one-day message – assume OK for Monday unless posted otherwise.
