Amended Holidays for Next Session 2019/20

As you may be aware, across the country, people have been asked to replace the May Monday holiday (4th May 2020) with a holiday on Fri 8th May 2020 to commemorate VE Day. ERC have agreed to this change and consequently the Inservice Day which was scheduled for Tues 5th May will now take place on Thurs 7th May.

Make Cowan Park a Better Place!

The Council is working in partnership with community stakeholders to plan the future of the park.  Budget has been set aside this year to make some initial upgrades to the park and they are seeking further funding from external sources, including the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, to enhance this investment.

Our young people have been working with other partners to consider improvements to Cowan Park and would appreciate your input. Please use the link below:

Rapid Response Challenge – New S2 students

All S1 (New S2) students, over the coming week, will enjoy a variety of lessons across a number of subjects on the Rapid Response Challenge.  Students will work in groups and use their problem-solving skills to complete a number of tasks.

The project finishes on Wednesday, 19th June with a challenge day, with students working outside for most of the day. The challenge day is a dress-as-you-please day (for new S2 students only), but students should come prepared for all weathers (sun cream and an outdoor jacket).

Students are not permitted to wear football colours.

Duke of Edinburgh – Expeditions

All (New) S4 DOFE Students:

For the students and parents that missed the recent DOFE Parents’ Information Evening, please see this PowerPoint presentation for all the information relating to the upcoming DOFE Expeditions.

In Summary:

  1. Practice Expedition – Thurs & Fri, 5th & 6th September 2019
  2. Assessed Expedition – Wed & Thurs 25th & 26th September 2019

Students will be supported through both expeditions, although there will be times when they will walk in groups of 6 unaccompanied.  Students will be issued with emergency mobile numbers and walkie-talkies, which they should use in the event of an emergency.

If there are any further questions or concerns, please contact Mr Boag via the school office.

Parental Involvement and Engagement Census

Parental Involvement and Engagement Census

East Renfrewshire Council are asking parents in all of their schools to respond to a survey which will be used to help improve the service offered by schools. The message (click here) explains this in more detail and contains a link which will take you to the survey. It should take around 5 minutes to complete and I would appreciate if you are able to do this for us.

The survey will remain open until 27th June 2019 and can be accessed by clicking on the link below:

Holiday Weekend / Start of New Timetable

A reminder that the school is closed for the holiday weekend this Friday and Monday (24th – 27th May). We close at the normal time on Thursday.

(Note that the N5 & H Art & Design exams are on Friday and the H RMPS is on Monday)

Our S1, S2 and S3 pupils will move up into S2, S3 and S4 respectively on Tues 28th May as previously indicated. We plan to issue pupil timetables by this Thursday.

We had originally planned for the senior pupils to return on Wed 29th May. However following discussion at Parent Council last week, it was suggested that it would be better for pupils (and parents!) to make the return date Mon 3rd June, in line with other local schools. I am happy to agree to this.

This will also give an opportunity for us to speak to a few new S5/6 pupils whose initial subject choice does not fit the new timetable. We always avoid having such discussions during the exam period. We will contact these pupils individually and arrange meetings with them for Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Mr S
