Virtual Careers Week 2020

This week Barrhead High will be exploring the world of work – virtually!

Pupils from S1-S6 will be developing their understanding of different career sectors, labour market information and business enterprise whilst additionally developing their career management skills and learning more about CV writing, personal statements and interview skills.

This would not have been possible without the help of many individuals and business partners who have submitted some fantastic videos on a huge range of careers from midwifery to theatre management.

Our S4 World of Work Ambassadors will also be assisting our S1 classes in learning about myworldofwork.com

Here is an overview of this week’s events:

S1 – Introduction to My World of Work

S3 – Business Enterprise Competition & Introduction to Skills Profiling

This week is Virtual Careers Week and we are looking for parents, carers and friends of Barrhead High to get involved.

This week is Tomorrow’s Engineers Week!

A number of different activities were taking place today:

1. The Big Quiz continued – please enter, if you haven’t done so already.  You can access The Big Quiz HERE until 2pm tomorrow.

Students will need to enter the following info:

1. Name of our school: Barrhead High
2. The first part of the school postcode: G78
3. And our region: Scotland

Activity 2:

The Royal Academy of Engineering have been running a number live question & answer sessions all day. Recordings of the sessions will be made available in due course.

 Activity 3:

All year groups had the chance to work through the Meet the Future You Quiz at lunch time today.  Students answer questions on their personal qualities and interests and the app suggests engineering careers that would suit.

If you’ve not tried the Meet the Future You Quiz, give it a go!

Starting today, we need as many students as possible to complete The Big Quiz – there are £1000 worth of STEM vouchers up for grabs.

The quiz will be posted HERE on Tuesday, 3rd Nov.

The quiz closes on Thursday at 2pm.

Look out for a number of activities this week including the Big Quiz (which starts Tuesday), a personal qualities test to see which area of engineering best suits your personality and, on Thursday, the online Q&A sessions with a variety of different engineers. I am sure there will be something for everyone.
