Cyber Discovery – S3-S6 students only

Are you interested in Cyber Security? Do you think you can defeat the next generation of internet hackers?

Then get involved in the Cyber Discovery Challenge.

1. Students need to be 14 years or older.

2. You don’t need to be a computer expert or need any training.

3. All of the tasks are online and require you to work logically and break codes.

If this sounds appealing, can you see Mr Boag ASAP. The deadline for completion of the Access level is Monday, 7th January 2019.  Further rounds will be opened up to students that complete the Access  Level well.

S4 – Prelim Exam Timetable – Amended Post Mon 26th Nov

Our apologies – there were some inaccuracies in the previous version of this post which have caused some confusion.

All exam dates/times are as per the attached timetable.

The prelim timetable had been posted previously on the School Website and also on Show My Homework.  A paper copy was made available for pupils who prefered that. However to avoid further confusion, we are issuing a paper copy to all pupils today.

There have been no further changes made or required to the exam timetable and the timetable on the link below is the final version. Students need to be familiar with the day and time of their exams.

Pupils with additional support requirements have been issued with a separate personalised timetable from the support department.

If you would like extra advice on studying and dealing with exam stress then visit the SQA study guides section of their website (link below).

smartSTEMs (S1, Girl-Only) Event

All S1 girls are invited to attend the smartSTEMs event on Friday, 30th November.

The smartSTEMs event is a FREE event for S1 girls only. Girls will be out of school all day, and lunch is usually provided free of charge.

The smartSTEMs event brings together different Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) companies to allow young people to fully understand how vital STEM skills are.  Last year’s event had a number of virtual reality companies showcasing  VR headsets and drones, as well as the The Royal Navy with an engineering challenge and the Forestry Commission highlighting sustainability.

Students are given the opportunity to get involved with the challenges, drones and VR headsets, as well as ask questions about future careers and jobs. There is also the chance to win some vouchers for your school, or a drone for yourself.

If you are interested in attending this event, then please see Mr Boag (Maths) by Monday, 12th November.

I currently only have 10 places available, should more than 10 students ask to attend, then I will organise a ballot.

For more info, visit the smartSTEMs website.

STEM WEST Event (S3 students only)

Any S3 students wishing to attend the STEM West event on the 27th November should see Mr Boag by Monday, 12th Nov.

The STEM West event brings together different Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) companies to allow young people to fully understand how vital STEM skills are.  Last year’s event had a number of virtual reality companies showcasing their VR headsets and software, as well as the NHS, The Royal Navy and the Forestry Commission.  Students are encouraged to get involved with what each employer is showcasing and to ask any questions they may have about how STEM subjects in school relate directly to careers.

For more info, download The STEM WEST Flyer.
