S3 – Duke of Edinburgh – WEDNESDAY, 7th October @ 7pm

FINAL DATE CHANGE

Please accept my apologies for changing the date of this meeting again. We are not able to hold the DOFE meeting on Monday, 5th Oct due to a Parent Council meeting running at the same time.

The date of the DOFE Meeting will be as originally planned – Wednesday, 7th October at 7pm.

***** Post Updated at 11.39am – Wed, 30th Sept ****

S3 Duke of Edinburgh virtual Parents & Carers Information Evening – Monday, 5th October at 7pm (was previously Wed, 7th Oct).

All S3 students wishing to undertake the DofE Bronze award this year should attend the above online meeting together with a parent or carer.

The evening will provide details on how students complete the award, all costs involved and all recent changes to DOFE due to lockdown restrictions.

More information has been posted on the Duke of Edinburgh 2020-21 Google Classroom, which all S3 DOFE students should now have access to.

A hyperlink to the online meeting will be posted in the above Google Classroom nearer the time. In the interim,  S3 DOFE students should make sure they can access the above Google Classroom – and see Mr Boag ASAP if they cannot.

Get involved with #MyJob or #MyJourney

SmartSTEMs is a charity that we have worked with for 6 years now, who inspire and engage our S1 students with all things STEM.  Every year a number of our S1 students would attend a smartSTEMs event and hear from industry leaders about the interesting, creative and varied STEM careers open to them. Students would also have the opportunity to get hands-on with technologies such as drones, cyber security and many others.

With all SmartSTEMs events cancelled they are looking to create a series of short STEM related videos on two things:

  1. #MyJob – what STEM field you work in and what skills that mainly involves.
  2. #MyJourney – the route you took to get to where you are today.

If there are any parents or carers, working in a STEM job, who are willing to share their experiences, then please register your details directly with SmartSTEMs. Please be aware that the STEM videos will be uploaded on to the SmartSTEMs YouTube Channel and could be shared with schools as far afield as London and the Netherlands.

Finally, if you wish to learn more about SmartSTEMs, then give their Annual Report a read – Barrhead High feature on page 17.
