Primary 3 worked really hard to learn songs and make PowerPoints for our P3 Rainforest and Polar Lands Assembly.

Heartstart Training
I am learning to assess and manage risk, to protect myself and others, and to reduce the potential for harm when possible. HWB1-16a
We have been participating in Heartstart training and now know how to help a conscious casualty, an unconscious casualty and someone who has cut themselves really badly. We practised putting someone into the recovery position and we even saved Mr Stern.
Gymnastics
I am discovering ways that I can link actions and skills to create
movement patterns and sequences. This has motivated me to
practise and improve my skills to develop control and flow.
HWB 1-21a
I am developing skills and techniques and improving my level of
performance and fitness. HWB 1-22a
We have been learning different ways to balance, roll, travel and jump. We worked together on a variety of apparatus and helped each other to make sequences using the skills we learned.
Outdoor Learning
We took part in outdoor learning. We had to work together in groups to make different shapes.
Careers
We have had a few visitors that came to share their careers with us. They were really interesting. We got to try on some of their uniform and ask them lots of questions.
I can describe some of the kinds of work that
people do and I am finding out about the wider
world of work. HWB 1-20a
Through taking part in a variety of events and activities, I am learning
to recognise my own skills and abilities as well as those of others.
HWB 1-19a
A big thank you to all our visitors. We all really enjoyed your visits.
World Book Day
We all enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book character for World Book Day. We found out about how authors describe characters and we studied Mr and Mrs Twit from The Twits by Roald Dahl.
There was a World Book Day assembly and we had to guess what books went with the illustrations we were shown.
We also made book covers of our favourite books. We had to include the title, author, write the blurb on the back and illustrate it. We are going to make a book buddy and display them in our library corner.
Polar Lands
By exploring climate zones around the world, I can compare and describe how climate affects living things. SOC 1-12b
By exploring a natural environment different from my own, I can discover how the physical features influence the variety of living things. SOC 1-13b
We have been learning about the people that live in the polar lands.
Scotland
I can describe and recreate the characteristics of my local environment by exploring the features of the landscape. SOC 1-07a
We explored the features of the Scottish landscape and compared it with different environments around the world.
I am learning to use my notes and other types of writing to help me understand information and ideas, explore new problems, generate and develop ideas or create new text- LIT1-25a.
Using digital technologies responsibly I can access, retrieve and use information to support, enrich or extend learning in different contexts. TCH 1-02a
We also carried out research in ICT and found out some interesting facts about Scotland.
Silly Billy
As I listen or watch, I can identify and discuss the purpose, key words and main ideas of the text, and use this information for a specific purpose. LIT 1-04a
To show my understanding across different areas of learning, I can identify and consider the purpose I am aware of and able to express my feelings and am developing the ability to talk about them. HWB 1-01a
I know that we all experience a variety of thoughts and emotions that affect how we feel and behave and I am learning ways of managing them. HWB 1-02a
I understand that there are people I can talk to and that there are a number of ways in which I can gain access to practical and emotional support to help me and others in a range of circumstances. HWB 1-03a
We read the book Silly Billy about a boy who worried about everything. His grandma told Billy about making a worry doll. He could then tell the worry doll all of his worries.
We explored some of the things we worry about and we all made worry dolls that we could tell our worries to. We also discussed who else we could tell our worries to and in class we made sure we all knew how to use our worry box. Lets hope we don’t have any more worries.
The Windy Windfarm
I understand how technologies help provide for our needs and wants, and how they can affect the environment in which we live.
TCH 1-07a
I can explore the latest technologies and consider the ways in which they have developed.
TCH 1-05a
I can design and construct models and explain my solutions.
TCH 1-09a
We enjoyed our visit to Whitelee Windfarm.
We found out some facts –
Murray – The blades are made in Denmark.
Calum – Whitelee is the second biggest windfarm in Europe.
Natasha – There are some poisonous snakes and other animals in the windfarm.
Andrew – One wind turbine went on fire and exploded last year.
Jessica – There are 215 wind turbines.
Isla – There are snow poles along the paths that are even taller than us.
Zoe – When we got off the school bus we were taken into a room in the visitor centre and we did some science experiments. This helped us to understand how the wind makes electricity.
Josh – Doing the science experiments was my favourite part of the trip.
Calum – When you were under the wind turbine it looked like you were falling over but it was actually the clouds moving.
When we got back we made our own windmills. We had to measure and cut the wood. We made the top by cutting the shape and folding. We used a pin to attach it to the wood. We had to wear safety goggles and gloves to protect us.
