S4 begins with a deeper look at the Sacraments and the Beatitudes. Pupils build on their prior learning on Genesis and creation by reflecting on God the Father and his love for us in creating each of us and sharing creation with us.
Through a topic based on the Glasgow based film ‘Man Dancing’, the young people consider many important issues including forgiveness and reconciliation. This is taken forward as pupils consider that each human person is made in the image of God but suffering the effects of the fall, original and actual sin. Pupils learn again that Christ gave Himself as a sacrifice for our redemption and that our sins are forgiven in the sacrament of confession.
A topic on morality allows pupils to engage with deep questions relating to topics such as war, discrimination, prejudice and abortion. They reflect on the formation of the conscience and how Catholics seek to form their conscience according to the commandments of God and the example of Jesus, Mary and the Saints.
Following a topic on the Creed, S4 pupils return to the topic of prayer in a deeper way and learn how to pray with the scriptures.
The year ends with a topic on God’s plan for human relationships through the ‘Called to Love’ program.
