Turning Point

Last week our trio had an extended after school rehearsal to try and push forward with our progress. It was very productive. We focused on the first and third movements as they need the most work and the second is sounding good. We’ve been having a lot of issues with the first movement but we sorted a lot of the technical passages. We had a bit of time left over so we moved on to the third. We again managed to sort the technical issues which is a huge step forward. I feel much happier about our progress now and we still have three weeks to sort intonation and minor technical issues. I have attached a clip of the third movement.

2nd Movement

As the first movement of the piece is the most difficult we have neglected the second and third movements for a while. Therefore I decided to refresh the second and third movements. The second movement was secure melodically and rhythmically and we were therefore working on dynamics. This was the best the trio had ever played in my opinion. The third movement was mostly secure however there were some tricky passages that need practise. A problem I have faced with the trio is that people aren’t practising the wee technical passages. This practise would only take ten minutes and would make the rehearsal a lot easier but I have brought it to their attention several times now and as the performance is getting closer I think they are going to practise more.
