Katie, 1G, becomes Highland Under-14 Badminton Champion!

Katie Stewart recently became the Highland Under 14 Badminton Champion. Katie competed in Dingwall taking on some of Scotland’s best from as far afield as Orkney, Stonehaven to Glasgow and Lanark. Katie fought a tough final beating Inverness’ top player 21-15, 21-19. Katie then went on to compete in the Doubles coming a credable third before a change of venue to Fortrose. Katie and her mixed doubles partner then won again, taking the Mixed Doubles trophy. Katie trains hard with the National Squad on an almost daily basis so her hard work is paying off.

We’re delighted to hear of Katie’s success and wish her all the best for future events. Hard work pays off!

More sporting success from 2D!

We had more sporting success from 2D at the end of February from Catriona Scott.

Catriona was part of the Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC U15 Girls 4 X 200m relay team which won gold and the national title at the Scottish Relay Championships at the Emirates Arena on Sunday 25th February. They also set a Club Record for VP Glasgow AC. The finals took place at the start of the Muller Indoor Grand Prix.

A fantastic achievement for Catriona – keep up the great work!

S4 Silver DofE Update February

Time scales for the Silver DofE Award are:

  • Volunteering section: 6 months
  • Physical and Skills sections: One section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months
  • Expedition section: 3 days/2 nights

If you didn’t do Bronze, you must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.

The activities that you are undertaking for each section must be inputted to your eDofE account. This can be accessed easily on your phone by searching m.edofe.org.

It is essential that you identify an assessor to write your Assessor Report. Once you’ve completed the section, take a picture of the report and upload to your eDofE account (on your phone, search m.edofe.org).

If you are having difficulty working out what to do for your sections, please speak to Dr Ross. There are many opportunities both out-with and within school that can be used for your sections.

Also, a reminder that your Practice Expedition will be Thursday 29th – Saturday 31st March and your Qualifying Expedition is Thursday 31st May – Saturday 2nd June. You will receive consent forms and training for these soon.

If you need any help or advice, please attend the DofE drop-in, held every Wednesday lunchtime in Room 3.7. Alternatively, you or your parents/carers can email Dr Ross: kross@boclair.e-dunbarton.sch.uk.

Health and Well-being Council

On the February inset day, members of our Health & Well-being council took time out from their holiday to come and present to teachers. Pupils shared the work they have  completed on GIRFEC and the SHANARRI indicators, informing teachers of what the well-being indicators mean to pupils at Boclair Academy.

Our young people then asked teachers for their input and feedback on the SHANARRI indicators and answered questions around the work they have been doing.

Over the next few weeks and months, the Health & Well-being council hope to collate all of the feedback from pupils, staff and parents to ensure there is a shared understanding of GIRFEC in and around our school community.

Well done and thank you to our young people who were involved in this event. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.
