This week we had our end of term fun days. The children had a wee dance, took part in summer themed activities and chased balloons and bubbles. We want to take this opportunity to say goodbye to the children who are leaving the room this week to move on to their new room in August and happy summer holidays to our returners. We’ll see our 48 week children next week for the summer sessions.
This week we have been harvesting lots of vegetables from the produce garden we have developed this year. With this the children have been tasting and sampling the vegetables we have grown. They have tried pea pads, new potatoes, nasturtium leaves, lettuce and spring onions. Many children were keen to try the food they had picked from the plants. Some tried the vegetables and decided it wasn’t for them and other asked for more. In addition to this, some children tried coconut milk and mango.
We have been developing our fine motor skills through using painting and drawing tools. 🎨 🖌️
We are developing our understanding of personal hygiene through brushing our teeth after meals. 🦷 🪥
We continue to look after and care for our plants and flowers out doors, developing an understanding of what they need to survive. 🌸 💦 ☀️
IMG_1162 We have been visiting the 3-5 year old room as part as our transitions. We are getting to now other members of staff and meet new friends. 👧 👦
This week the children have been preparing for the Coronation celebrations by making their own crowns and flags. They were making their own choices about which materials to use to decorate their crowns which will enhance their confidence in their decision making abilities. They children had a special coronation snack to celebrate.
This week the children have been exploring the new, bigger garden. The 2 year old garden has now joined with the 3 to 5 room’s garden which makes a much bigger space to explore with many more toys and lots of new friends to play with. The children coped very well with this new environment.
This week we have been finishing our Christmas crafts. We have been making Christmas cards for our loved ones by printing with festive stampers and paint.
The children have also been celebrating at their Christmas party. They had a wee dance, ate a special snack, played Musical Bumps and even had some visitors. We were very lucky to have Santa and the Grinch visit us. Santa let the children ring his magic bell, while the Grinch was being very cheeky! 🎅🏼
This week we have have been exploring insert puzzle boards. Playing with these puzzles will strengthen the children’s matching skills and are also brilliant for developing their fine motor and coordination skills.
This week we have been celebrating Nursery Rhyme Week. We have continued our learning about Night and Day by exploring Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star along with singing many others. Some children are beginning to sing the end of the lines of some songs which is demonstrating their ability to recall familiar information.
This week we have been experiencing Halloween in the playroom. We have been exploring pumpkins, made Halloween pictures, listened to spooky stories, dressed up in costumes and made Halloween biscuits!
This week the children have started to work on their self service skills during lunch and snack time. Working on these skills will not only help our children to become more independent but will help them to select food according to their preference.
The children also got to explore the gym hall this week. The ran around the hall, avoiding crashing into one another and played with the balls, hoops and beanbags. Throwing objects like these is a good way for the children to develop their gross motor skills and their coordination.
