Primary 3/4 have been busy settling into the final term of the session.
Numeracy
In numeracy, Primary 3/4 are currently learning about fractions. They have been making fractions of shapes, naming fractions, counting them and even finding fractions of an amount. The numeracy discussions taking place within each group have been really impressive and they are all excellent at showing their thinking by using the concrete materials available to them. Have a look at our mathematicians in action:
Literacy and IDL
Our main focus this term is explanation texts and Primary 3/4 have been busy learning about ‘Brilliant Bees’ and the impact they have on our world. They have been using their reading skills to skim and scan through the topic books looking for accurate information about bees. Their digital literacy skills have been tested by using the internet to find ‘bee-rilliant’ facts and use their new knowledge to create digital posters.
Our bee experts discovered that bees love wildflowers so we went exploring in our school grounds to see if we could find any. We discovered that our school has lots of potential space which would be perfect for a wildflower garden. Primary 3/4 have lots of ideas and we may need your help soon. Watch this space!
Art
Inspired by their research on wildflowers, Primary 3/4 decided to create their own paintings of flowers which would attract bees. We learned about hot and cold colours and used these to make beautiful pieces of art. Here is a sneak peek of their masterpieces:
Open Afternoon
On Thursday afternoon we were excited to welcome parents and families in to share our learning. We wanted to show them a range of activities that we have been working on recently. Our families helped us to use Scratch to create computer codes; play numeracy games; research the role of bees in the hive; discover how a new Pope is chosen and many more fun activities. Have a look at the gallery to see how much fun we had:
Play
Play is an important part of our learning. It helps us to build friendships, consolidate our learning, develop our social skills and relax. Primary 3/4 have had a few new friends joining our class recently and it is important that we all feel welcomed and part of our wonderful class community. We have lots fun playing together and bonding. Have a look:
Learning Logs
At the end of each busy week we take time to reflect on our learning. Primary 3/4 are always reflective and thoughtful of the week that has passed. They are eager to continue their learning next week.
