Snapshot Week

Here is a look into a wonderful week with Primary 2 .

PE – Primary 2 are developing their skills in hockey.  They have been working  on drills to help improve passing, dribbling and shooting.

Open Afternoon – We were delighted to welcome all of our visitors into the P2 classroom. They were so pleased to show off their hard work.

Literacy – P2 have been exploring the features of narrative writing. This week they have enjoyed creating their own characters and working as part of a group to create their own story map.

Numeracy – This week we have been working on fractions, focusing on halves and quarters. Primary 2 loved taking their learning outdoors and recording their working on the iPad.

Art – They are currently exploring collage. Using different materials to overlap smaller images to create one larger piece of art.

Science – With Ms Reid the pupils have been looking at The Solar System. They were amazed with all of the facts they found when researching.

Mrs Bradley visits P2

I visited P2 and Miss Thorpe this morning to join in their learning and teaching of numeracy.

They were learning to count forwards in 2s.  This is a building block to counting forwards and backwards in 2s to 100 and then understanding that multiplication is repeated addition.

P2 were able to calculate totals by counting groups of 2s using a wide range of manipulatives.

This is how we learn mathematical concepts – we move from using concrete materials through to pictorial representations and then onto abstract thinking.

Concrete materials or manipulatives are used throughout the school to deepen understanding.

Well done P2 – I really enjoyed being in your class.  I’m really proud of how well you are engaged in learning.
