Mrs Sinclair visits Primary 7

What a fabulous morning in Primary 7!

It was wonderful to see the progression of our Primary 7 learners.  So confident, enthusiastic and eager to share their learning in Numeracy.

They have been looking at different multiplication strategies and methods to solve calculations.  The different groups were all working on Posters of Understanding to show their learning in a very visual way.

I was delighted to see groups using Grid Method, Brackets and Standard Algorithm to solve multi step word problems.  Some fantastic examples of problem solving and working together.

I was very impressed to see groups using manipulatives and concrete materials to solve division calculations.

A great start to a very busy week.

Keep up the fantastic work P7!

Well done and thank you!

P7 Numeracy

Mrs McCrorie provides support to raise attainment at 2nd level.  Mrs Bradley visited a P7 group today.

A great showcase of learning.  All learners could demonstrate their understanding of multiplication and division and were using the grid method, brackets and column method to solve calculations.

If you are unsure about what any of these strategies are – ask your child to show you!

Well done P7 – impressive learning!

Snapshot Week

Monday

On Monday, we started the morning practising our Christmas songs for our school performance later in the term.  We are already sounding so amazing!

Later we looked at our new sound for Phonics and Spelling, and used a collection of resources to find new representations of the sound. We used our Giglets books, newspapers, and Big Books to find our sounds.

We also had the chance to read our last page in our class novel “The Silver Swan”. We were so excited to work out what was happening from the illustrations.

After some Estimating and Rounding, we listened to some presentations. This term we have been learning about other countries and cultures, and have been comparing them to our home country Scotland. Well done Caleb and Ada who presented theirs on Belgium and France!

Finally, we started to create our own Thinglink about the countries we have researched. We have been enjoying sharing our learning with others, and have been learning to make our research more interactive for others!

Tuesday

Tuesday was an exciting day for us in Primary 7 as we went to St. Joseph’s Academy for our transition visit. We were split into groups and had the opportunity to meet our future teachers! We really enjoyed Science and P.E.

After an exciting morning, we had the Cumnock Rugby Club come in and help us develop our Rugby skills!

To end the day, we began discussing Christmas Art ideas with Mrs. McCrorie. We voted on the perfect Bethlehem scene 🙂

Wednesday (Christmas Art Day!)

Today, Primary 7 explored using different materials and techniques to create the perfect Bethlehem Scene. Some of us chose pencils, while others used  pieces of cardboards to create the perfect outline for Bethlehem.

We experimented with a mixture of colours and techniques to create our beautiful sky! We loved sharing our ideas with each other and communicating with each other to ensure a consistent (but different) scene.

We used chalk pastels to create a warm glow from our buildings, and we decorated our wonderful stars with some glitter to make them sparkle!

Thursday

We started our morning with listening to some more presentations. Well done to Kai and Tyler who shared their learning with us! We enjoyed learning about Switzerland and Ireland!

After our Numeracy, where we were looking at Estimating and Rounding we prepared ourselves to welcome our families into our classroom for our Open Day.

To celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, we had different stations celebrating our Patron Saint. We were using digital learning tools such as Thinglink, Clickview and Microbits the celebrate the day. We also practised our reading and writing skills with some Upskilling Sentences and a reading comprehension about St. Andrew! We also enjoyed using our sketching skills from our Silver Swan Artwork to sketch out some iconic Scottish Landmarks.

Thanks to everyone who came to visit us!

Friday

We started this morning reflecting on our busy week via our Learning Logs. We enjoy them as it’s nice for us to take time and reflect on what we have achieved this week!

Today we had a fun day listening to some more presentations! Thank you so much Mason, Sana and Alyssa! We learned so much 🙂

As it’s the 1st of December we changed our altar to reflect Advent. We are very excited for this month!
