Update from East Ayrshire Council

Dear Parents/Carers and Young People,

Following a meeting today with the professional associations at council level, we are now in a position to advise of the return dates for all schools in EAC. Teachers will return on Tuesday 11th August for an in-service day and pupils will return on Wednesday 12th August. Clearly, not all pupils will return physically to school on that day and we will advise you as soon as possible around physical attendance patterns for our young people. We hope that you will find this information helpful at this time, and we will issue further information about remaining term dates for 20/21 in due course.

Siblings

Dear Parent/Carer,

This form should be completed by all families with siblings attending our school next session. We appreciate that some families already replied to the form used to track siblings attending primary schools. However, we need you to complete this form too as the two returns are being used for different purposes.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the very challenging landscape of gradual re-opening as of August.

Update from Head of Education

Dear Parents/Carers and Pupils,

Please access letters issued today by Linda McAulay-Griffiths by clicking on the images shown below. School level updates will follow, but likely not before the last week of term given the volume of planning involved and the need to wait on decisions taken locally and nationally.

Kind Regards

Mr Kane

Planning for August – Siblings at Associated Primary Schools

Dear Parent/Carer,

Please complete this form if you will have children attending both our school and one of our associated primary schools in August. We cannot guarantee attendance at both schools on the same day but we can try to plan for maximising attendance at both schools on the same day where possible and if known to us ASAP.

Kind Regards

Mr Kane

Today’s Jotter Distribution and August

It was great to see so many families and young people today at the various jotter collection points and when delivering to you. I would also like to thank you for adhering to responsible social distancing at each location. Our community is unique within East Ayrshire in two ways. Firstly, we are East Ayrshire’s Catholic Secondary. Secondly, we serve the entire local authority area. I firmly believe that one of the lessons for us all to take from this closure period is the importance of togetherness and identity as a community of faith and learning. Despite the geographic challenges we sometimes face when trying to harness that sense of community, the welcome received by staff and offered to parents/pupils was the same in Fenwick and Kilmaurs as it was in Muirkirk and New Cumnock (and everywhere else in between). Staff are proud to serve every area across the authority and I know our chaplains share that sense of pride in serving you.

Schedule for Jotter Collection and S6 iPad drop off – Monday 1st June

Dear Parents/Carers and Pupils,

Please note that social distancing will be in place at each location.

Please find details of Monday’s jotter collection/S6 iPad drop off below. If you have yet to fill in the original form, you should use St. Joseph’s Academy, St. Joseph’s Church, Mount Carmel Church, Darvel, Galston, St. John’s Church or Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Patrick’s Church at the given times. Anyone changing location at this stage should also use one of the above locations. In some cases, there are health reasons that necessitate delivery and/or numbers are so low that delivery to doors is more practical in some areas. This is not an invitation to request delivery. We will not deliver unless there are reasons why your original return does not stand, and those reasons must be related to health or transport problems.

Apologies if the above seems blunt, but I must protect staff and your families as much as possible from direct contact and door to door delivery.  Where staff are delivering to doors, they will place the jotters outside doors, knock the door and leave. If no one is home, jotters will be left outside for your collection upon arrival home.  If you are returning an iPad and staff are collecting from your home, please leave the iPad and charger on the doorstep for collection. Planning for distribution of jotters and collection of S6 iPads

Dear Parents/Carers and Pupils,

As you know, we intend to create pickup/drop off points across East Ayrshire to allow us to distribute jotters and to collect iPads from outgoing S6 pupils.  To assist with planning, please select one preferred location using this form. Please note, where we have no response at a location we will not be able to set up a collection/drop off point. Kind Regards, Mr Kane

Drive-Through Collection of Jotters/Return of iPads

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are in the process of co-coordinating drive-through pick up areas across the local authority area for jotters and other materials. These areas will also be used to collect EAC iPads from our outgoing S6. We will share more with you when our plans are finalised, but it is likely that we will use our school car park and parish church car parks in various areas of the authority. When we can confirm arrangements, parents/carers will be able to book a slot for collection. Given that staff need to man each station, the window at each location is likely to be restricted to one hour. No parents or pupils should exit vehicles. More to follow once we can confirm final arrangements, but this is likely to happen w/b Monday 1st June.

Holiday Monday, In-service Tuesday, Help with IT

Dear Parents/Carers and Pupils,

This is a reminder that we are on holiday on Monday, and Tuesday is a staff In-Service day. This means pupils will not be issued new work until Wednesday. This also presents a perfect opportunity to sort out any ongoing difficulty in accessing Google Classrooms or Teams. Pupils can email me on glow and I will resolve any issues they are experiencing. I am still finding that over 95% of issues raised are solved by following the guidance on our website, but if this guidance does not seem to help at first, pupils should not hesitate to email me as soon as possible. I have emailed all pupils on several occasions to request that they make contact. If we are unaware of access issues it is impossible to help.
