Dear Parents/Carers,
We have been made aware of a video circulating throughout the UK on various social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp etc.). The video originates in America and is particularly disturbing. The mainstream media are also reporting on the circulation of this clip. We are led to believe that the clip begins fairly innocently, which lures young viewers into a false sense of security. It seems that this clip is being watched and shared by school age pupils across the country.
As you know, almost all pupils have access to a mobile device and as such, these videos often circulate amongst private chat groups used by pupils. We are sharing this post with you to raise awareness of the fact that the video is in circulation nationally and encourage all parents/carers to closely monitor access to social media and private group chats.
While we can speak to young people about the clip, we cannot police social media use or access, and depend upon parents/carers to ensure that young people are not accessing or sharing inappropriate content.
While this video is particularly harrowing, we are aware of the wider risks of social media access and would encourage all parents/carers to continue to discuss appropriate use of IT and social media with their children.
