School Update – 1st September

Dear Parents/Carers,
Inoculations
NHS staff were on site today to conduct follow up vaccinations with S2 to S5 pupils. These vaccinations had been scheduled to take place during lockdown but were cancelled for obvious reasons. As the vaccinations were part of a follow up cycle, we were unaware of the specific young people involved (due to GDPR legislation). As such, it was not possible to notify families in advance. Anyone who missed the follow up visit today will be contacted by the NHS in due course.  The only young people to receive vaccinations today were those for whom a parent/carer had provided consent before lockdown.
House Parties/Gatherings
We have been asked by NHS colleagues to reinforce the fact that house parties and large gatherings are not advised by the NHS at the moment. Across Scotland, there has been an increase in the number of gatherings in breach of national guidance, particularly involving young people and those of school age. While our young people may feel that COVID will not impact upon them, there is a risk of transmission in gatherings of this type. By extension, there is then a risk of onward transmission to others, including extended family members who may be particularly vulnerable to COVID. NHS Scotland respectfully request that parents/carers actively discourage attendance at house parties/gatherings.
Face Coverings on School Transport
Stagecoach has asked all local schools to reinforce the fact that young people over the age of five should all wear face coverings for the duration of their journey on public transport. If your son/daughter is using a public bus or train, please remind them to wear their face mask for the duration of their journey.
Letter from Professor Jason Leitch – National Clinical Director
Yesterday, we posted an open letter to all parents/carers in Scotland from Professor Jason Leitch. The letter can be found here:
