Night of the Living Ted by Barry Hutchison

When Lisa Marie and her step-brother Vernon pop into town to get their dad a birthday present, they discover the Create-a-Ted shop is offering free Halloween bears! Making two grisly bears for themselves and choosing an Elvis bear named Bearvis for Dad, they head home. That night the shopkeeper brings the bears to life for nefarious purposes … but Vernon’s bear, Grizz, doesn’t want to be a slave to humans – he wants to rule the world! Converting the shopkeeper’s Stuff-U-Lator into a machine for turning living matter into stuffed bears, he begins to prowl the streets. Can the children and Bearvis save themselves – and the world – from being stuffed?

Very good book, to me of course because I like evil things like that. RB (S1) ****1/2

The Book of Doom by Barry Hutchison

There’s panic up in Heaven. They have mislaid the Book of Doom – the most important object in existence. Oopsy. They think Satan might have stolen it, the sneaky little devil, so to save the world – plus, you know, quite a lot of embarrassment, fifteen year old Adam and his angelic guide Angelo are sent to retrieve it.

I really enjoyed this book. There are lots of details and it’s really funny. I would really recommend this book. J (S2) *****

The 13th Horseman by Barry Hutchison

13-year-old Drake is quite surprised to find the Horsemen of the Apocalypse hanging out in his garden shed. He’s even more surprised when they ask him to join them. At first he is reluctant to join them and help usher in the Armageddon but it soon becomes clear that to save his life Drake will have to become death.

Invisible Fiends: The Beast by Barry Hutchison

Kyle is having trouble with the neighbours. They’ve turned into black-eyed, flesh-eating zombies. Now would be a good time to leave town but out there, on the snow covered streets, something far worse is lurking. There is a beast in the shadows and the only way for Kyle to fight it is to use his powers. But every time Kyle uses them, he weakens the barrier between this world, and the terrifying, world of the Darkest Corners. If the barrier breaks there will be more killers on the streets.

Very good but I wouldn’t read it without reading the other ones first. OC (S1) *****

Invisible Fiends: Mr Mumbles by Barry Hutchison

Kyle hasn’t seen Mr Mumbles in years. And there’s a good reason for that: Mr Mumbles doesn’t exist. But now he is back, Kyle doesn’t have time to worry about why. Only one thing matters – staying alive.

Fantastic. I couldn’t put it down. One of the best books I have ever read. I.R. (S1) *****

Scary, it gave me goosebumps. Dare you to read it at night! 🙂 K.M. (S1) ****
