Class round up 27th May

Its been a busy few weeks in primary 7 as the end of year excitement begins to peak!

This week pupils visited Stewarton Academy for their transition days. It was a very quiet, nervous bus journey there on Wednesday but I’m delighted to say that the nerves quickly passed and all pupils had a great time!

Nervous faces

Post visit excited faces!

We have been busy practicing for our end of year assembly. Our scenes are coming along well but the singing is a little quiet! Please encourage your child to listen to the songs uploaded to Teams to allow them to practice.

In class we have been reading our novel ‘Holes’ and really enjoying it. We have also been ;earning about angles in maths!

Class update 6th May 2022

Primary 7 have been very busy since our return from the Easter break. We have moved back  in to our lovely new renovated classroom and have settled in well.

Pupils have been reading the novel ‘Holes’ in literacy. They are enjoying the story so far and I can’t wait to see their responses to the twists and turns!

Within numeracy the class have completed a topic on algebra (letters in maths?! Woah!). It was an interesting topic with some pupils really finding their strength in this area. They are now focusing on all things measure (area, perimeter, volume, weight). Pupils are coping really well so far.

Pupils now have their leavers assembly scripts and should  be practicing their lines at home regularly. Mr Keachie is also extremely happy with pupil progress on their instruments, with regular practice also being encouraged.

Please find below some important dates on our transition calendar:

Tuesday 10th May – Mrs McBain (pupil support) from Stewarton Academy in to visit pupils.

Wednesday 11th May – Mrs Ward from Stewarton Academy in to visit pupils.

Tuesday 17th May – PE transition workshop in school.

Wednesday 25th May & Thursday 26th May – S1 Transition at Stewarton Academy.

Class update 29th March 2022

Primary 7 have loved exploring the world of work over the past few weeks. We used the My world of work website questionnaire tools to identify careers best suited to our interests, skills and qualities.

Pupils then researched their chosen job and had to create a project board exploring the skills required to do the job, potential interview questions and a job advert to hire someone for this career.

Pupils had the opportunity to put their own self evaluation and thoughts on their project board and will share these with their peers this week.

We had some wonderful careers pop up like acupuncturist, music therapist, fire fighter, agricultural engineer, SSPCA officer and many many more!

Have a look at some of our projects 🙂

Class update 11th March

Well it has been a very quiet week in class this week! I hope all pupils who are at home are feeling well and we can’t wait to see you back in class. We have had some excellent learning happening at home! I expect it to be a number of days before our class returns to normal so please encourage your child to engage on Teams, if they are feeling well.

Our girls in school spent time in the local community on Tuesday spreading the word about International Women’s Day. We loved meeting the women of Kilmaurs and talking to them.

Luckily, last week was a very productive week for us!
In literacy we created texts for our buddies to enjoy as part of our World Book day celebrations. We explored infant books to assess what words they could read, as well as learning that infants take much of their reading information from pictures! Some of our finished results were lovely.

In numeracy we started our money topic and have enjoyed looking at budgets and revising the importance of place value and the decimal point. We look forward to studying currency conversions and credit and debit cards next week.

In literacy we are starting a new class novel to read for enjoyment called ‘The Afterwards’. We are continuing with our active spelling and grammar. We hope to finish our discursive writing topic in the next week or two!

We had our first Young STEM leader call with the other P7 classes and staff from Stewarton Academy. We can’t wait to get stuck in to earning the badges for our award.

A China themed update

Wow! What a week it has been in Primary 7. We have completed our China topic and marked this with wonderful presentations from all pupils, as well as a Chopstick challenge afternoon.

I am so immensely proud of every single pupil who came out to present to the class. We had voiced over videos, amazing poster boards and wonderful ICT skills shown through Powerpoint. Pupils spoke confidently and covered a huge range of topics. I was amazed by how much I learned from the projects and appreciate the amount of effort put in by pupils, as well as support given from home.

Please take a look at the photos of the pupils presenting – concentration faces were on!

We rounded off our topic with an afternoon learning to use chopsticks. We trialled picking up small objects before trying to eat egg fried rice with them. We enjoyed tasting the rice, shrimp and prawn crackers. I am so pleased to announce that no rice landed on the floor – quite an achievement!

We also welcomed a new pupil in to our class. John was been warmly welcomed and is settling in well!

Check out our skills!

Primary 7 have had a very creative few weeks. We have worked on Scottish landscape art over a number of sessions. In our previous update I shared the initial sketch stage with you. I’m delighted to share some of our completed pieces below. I’m sure you’ll agree they are fantastic!

We have also been working so hard on our China study and have really enjoyed learning about Dynasties, Confucious the philosopher in RME and Chinese new year. I have heard that pupils are working well at home and making good progress on their projects. We can’t wait to see these on the 21st.

We also had our first session of four rugby inputs from Kilmarnock Rugby Club. Pupils loved the session and the games included. Sadly I am still trying to get my breath back after playing some of the games.

We have Mr Keachie in on a Tuesday afternoon to teach us brass tuition. Pupils will be given a trumpet or trombone to practise over the coming weeks, I apologise in advance for the noise at home!

  1. Mr Keachie treated us to a tune on the piano!

Class update 27/1/2021

Please enjoy a little update on some of the key events in class recently!

We have been working particularly hard on our Scottish landscape art. We studied key landmarks in China and spent some time comparing these to landmarks in Scotland. We have been working on splitting our art in to manageable chunks, as well as a focus on sketching. I can’t wait to see the finished products and will be sure to share these with you!

Wow – mastered the kelpie head shape!

The early stages, already looking great!

Great perspective shown here.

A fantastic sketch of the Kelpies!

Ebony enjoyed testing various materials to perfect the texture of the greenery in the image.

We have been learning ‘Willie Wastle’ for our mini Burns’ afternoon on Monday 31st January. We will each recite the poem and we will also hear some of the fantastic Toasts to and from the lassies which we wrote this week.

We began our China project last week and have been so engaged in the topic so far! We’ve really enjoyed looking through Miss McCulloch’s souvenirs, as well as wonderful photo album and book sent in by Abbie’s gran. I can’t wait to continue the learning and see the finished projects in February.

Please look out for the class newsletter to hear about all other learning happening this term.

Miss McCulloch

Welcome to term 3!

Wow term 3 already?! Time is flying and at times I wish it would slow down so that I can have longer with our wonderful P7 class.

Term 3 will be full of hard work, learning essential study skills and, hopefully, lots of fun!

Hard Work Is The Formula For Success: Journal de mesures corporelles / Format Optimisé 15 x 22 cm 100 Pages / Très utile pour noter vos mensurations si vous suivez un régime

Since our return to school we have been working on a range of new learning, as well as continuing some learning from before the holidays.

Literacy

In literacy we have been looking at fact and opinion in texts and analysing the types of text where we see this. We have also started to learn a poem called ‘Willie Wastle’ which was written by Robert Burns. We will be decoding the Scots language within this to gain better understanding. We also continue working on our spelling with the current phoneme being ‘oi’.

Numeracy

We are still working on fractions and will be continuing this learning for a number of weeks whilst introducing decimals and percentages too.

We are completing number talks each day and I am so impressed by the range of strategies being used in class.

Health and wellbeing

We have started to look at change and loss and pupils were very mature in their approach this week. I understand this topic can trigger emotions for pupils and will support them in class to express these emotions.

Miss Corrigan will continue teaching the class about internet safety.

We are working on a block of gymnastics in P.E.

Wider curriculum

This week we began our China study which is always a great topic to learn about! This topic will involve lots of self study, culminating in a final project to be shared with the class. Pupils are really enjoying this so far!

As always, if you would like to get in touch please don’t hesitate to call the school office and I’ll be sure to return your call at a suitable time.
